Any tips? Have roughly measured house using a laser but do I add on any? Also, underlay, say if I need 60m2 carpet do I need less underlay as they can cut / stick it together unlike carpet. Also is there an easy way to measure 13 steps? Any hints most welcome thanks

Ps will need in next couple of weeks as plan to finish decorating then

Are you planning on laying the carpet yourselves? If not wont the carpet supplier come and measure up?

I don't want people than I need coming in and out of my house. I want to measure so I have an idea of how much carpet I need so I can get online quotes then just get the one carpet shop getting exact measurements if I can

*more

I can't lay the carpet myself so I want some ballpark figures to compare prices

If it's ball park figures you have measured close enough. When I did our whole house I gave the carpet companies the measurements for each room and they told me the best price and where I could save carpet. I found the local companies gave me by far the best prices.

  • they told me the best price and where I could save carpet" Not one company has told me that and I've contacted 4!

You need to do it room by room as some rooms may bend 4m width carpet and some rooms 5m width carpet. You also need to make sure that the fitters run the pile the same way so it looks right when going room to room.

Personally I would get them in to measure up, as if you mess up then it's on you. If they mess up then it's on them to rectify. Most are covid secure and will wear mask and gloves etc....

I know someone who got them to come in and measure up, they didn't give her measurements just the amount of carpet needed. Calculated price per m2 ( eg queens carpet to fit lounge landing stairs and 3 bed x 24.00 + underlay + fitting = £2900) so no measurements given on quote

I wanted to do the same and shop online for best prices but unless you have someone who can advise you, it's very difficult to know how to split the carpet order. It's not only about how many metres you need, you also need to work out how many "pieces" to buy. It's a nightmare. You need a carpet fitter to tell you.
