So we applied for a private rent i did all the legwork but when the tenancy agreement came through my DP name is on first and he seems to think this makes him the main tennant, is he right?

There’s no such thing as a main tenant. If both of your names are on the tenancy agreement then you are jointly and severally liable. That means that if, for example, you don’t pay the rent, the landlord can demand it back from both of you jointly or either of you individually. It doesn’t matter what order the names are in.

Yes to what PP said. If an agent asks for a main tenant they usually just mean whoever is more appropriate for them to get hold of. In the eyes of the law you have the same obligations and rights
