First time buyer in need of reassurance...

Hi all,

I'm 23, recently single and looking to buy my first home (a 2 bed flat or apartment).

I live in a very desirable area which means the property market is competitive and quick. Especially Help to Buy schemes, which I'm looking at.

I found and viewed a stunning 2 bed apartment yesterday. I'm in love with it. However, it goes to the first person to complete their application. My application is currently being held up with the mortgage helpline as they are struggling to find the right lender for me due to my contract being temporary.

I'm so on edge and feel utterly crap because I have a feeling someone else will get there first (I've been told there's people applying as we speak).

I can't shake the feeling of how gutted I'll be if it goes. Can anyone reassure me? Maybe you thought you found the one and it didn't work out, but for the best? Or that there will be more?

It doesn't help that's it's a weekend so j can't really proceed with things!

I'll be appreciative of any comments xx

Not exactly the same but back in May last year DH and I thought we’d found “the one”. Unfortunately it was part of a divorce so what started as a fairly straightforward purchase ended up becoming a complete nightmare! After months of feet dragging on the ex-husband’s part we made the difficult decision to start looking at other houses. I actually cried about it as I felt certain nothing else would ever compare to it.

A month later our dream house came on the market, we moved in just before Christmas. The best part was it was £100k less than the first house Grin

I’m a big believer that what’s meant for you won’t pass you by, and promise you if this house doesn’t work out there will be others.

The 'there are other people applying too' may just be a sales tactic.

Take a step back and think of all the pros and cons. A 2 bed flat is a great FTB in a desirable area. However, new builds are often overpriced and don't recover their value for a few years.

Are you using the developer's 'mortgage helpline'? You could research a good independent broker who specialises in cases such as yours. What's the nature of your temporary contract - could you find yourself without income in 6 months' time? Is it the best time to buy?
