... I am currently constrained by having to buy near a good school but I would love to know if I could move anywhere, what could I get for 400k? In an ideal work the house would be semi detached at least, on a quiet road, offstreet parking, period property, light, min 3 bed, near good transport links and areas of cultural interest with a strong sense of community.

£400k will buy you a lot in the nicest suburbs in Newcastle. The first 3 are a 10/20 minute walk to the city centre. If you want a proper garden you'd need at least 650. Sigh.

@Crocodilian that house is so sweet. Until I saw the bizarre shaped fence in the garden and wondered why. So zoomed in to the photo showing what looks like a lane to the side and I think I see tombstones? My eyes do get tired though so may be wrong.

I’d love such a pretty house though.

Have a look at the Streetview link...lots would be put off by that!

@SaltyTootsieToes @Starseeking ah yes I can see that would bother a lot of people! Doesn't put me off in the slightest: I live extremely near there (time for a name change!) and it's a lovely, quiet, well maintained and private cemetery, and I'd massively rather have that on my doorstep than other houses!
