Does anyone have a genuinely great electric shower?

We are in a village with no gas and need a way of ensuring that everyone gets a hot shower each day. I don't think the current water tank is big enough so the options are to either get another /bigger water tank installed or get an electric shower.

I've heard that electric showers aren't that great even the top of the range ones.

Does anyone have a genuinely great electric shower that they would recommend?

Ours is a Mira sport which was the most expensive one going when I got it 3 years ago and needed a special transformer?? Or some sort of electrical special thing. I think it’s pretty good when you use the air boost function

PigletJohn · 19/01/2021 15:03

no such thing.

Anyone who thinks theirs is good, squirt it into a bucket; time it to full, calculate litres per minute of hot water it delivers.

Chumleymouse · 19/01/2021 15:28

Electric showers are great when your boiler breaks down 😀. We have both and the electric one is less powerful but its still fine , I don’t get all the fuss about showers just get it get washed and get out 👍

HotChoc10 · 19/01/2021 15:39

I'm getting this one installed in two weeks, as it was the smartest looking one I could find - I'll report back then on how good it is.

Agree that a normal shower is preferable but I cant be arsed to get all the tiles ripped out to get one installed!

I have this which is pretty good and I love the dual heads. Its still not as good as a mains one but I didn't want to remodel the pipework and tiles. It also doesn't change temp when anyone else flushes a loo or turns a tap on.

I have a Mira Azura. I was really reluctant to change to an electric one but it's actually ok. I have a lot of hair and can't abide showers that don't even wet it through. www.mirashowers.co.uk/showers/electric-showers/mira-azora-98kw/

rbe78 · 19/01/2021 16:46

My folks have had Miras for years. They're not the prettiest of showers, but they're good.

movingonup20 · 19/01/2021 16:58

Mira sport and is very good, 5 years old and still going strong but from experience they don't last too much longer

movingonup20 · 19/01/2021 16:59

@PigletJohn

I've had both types and the electric have been far better.

Aqualisa Aquastream - essentially an electric power shower with a built-in pump - is great. There have been threads on here about them in the past.

We've just had that one installed. It's a cracker.

Bathroom fitter said it's one of the best he's fitted. Looks smart too.

Ours is a power shower with a pretty powerful pump and rainfall head plus hand shower (I can't tell what make it is as it's behind the wall). It's the best shower I've ever used and I'm so happy with it (only downside is that SSs and girlfriends prefer that one to the shower in the guest bathroom when they stay so despite having bathroom space for everyone they're all queuing up for this one!)

HotChoc10 · 19/01/2021 17:16

Looks great @philcornwall1, nice to see it in situ

justabigdisco · 19/01/2021 18:37

I’ve never used an electric shower in my life that’s as good as a mains shower. They are useful to have if your boiler breaks - but I’d rather take the risk and have a decent shower for the times when my boiler isn’t broken!

Daphnise · 19/01/2021 18:49

I've never known a basic strong electric shower in England.
But I believe there are pumps/boosters which can be added to improve them.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/01/2021 19:10

I was very surprised at how good the electric shower was in a dd’s first house. Ditto in the house she moved to later. Plenty of water, not the trickle I’d expected.

I particularly like the fact that you don’t waste water, waiting for it to get hot. Which is more than you can say for our 2 Aqualisas, very good though they have been for many years now.
