Water lost in boiler replacement

Hi all, we recently moved house and since moving have installed new boiler and heating system.
I have just received my water bill. they are saying they do not have my initial meter reading (and I cant find the note pad with it written in) they have estimated my starting reading.
They say that since September I have used more water than I did in the whole of last year in my old house. I know my system was drained and refilled when the heating was done but would this make up for the drastic rise. I want to be prepared before I start a battle over my usage and my estimated meter reading. I am also waiting for the sellers to contact me to see if they have the original numbers.

taking into account moving, extra cleaning, water system and being at home I think this reading is still very wrong and will be keeping a close eye on it in months to come.
