Survey needed?

First time buyers buying a 20 year old house. My dad whose pretty handy ha been for a look around and can’t see any problems. Is there any benefit to getting a survey??

I've been in this situation twice and went for the Home Buyers report both times (i.e. not a full structural survey, but not just the bank's valuation either). Unlikely to throw up anything major, but you never know - build quality isn't guaranteed, etc. We saw it as a small price to pay for peace of mind.

It can also be useful to identify maintenance jobs that might be needed within the first few years of ownership.
