Hi does any one have information about hawkinge please.

Is it a nice place to bring up children. Need a primary school and secondary. Is it a village? Does it feel safe?

Is it easy to get into folkestone from there?

Any help is appreciated

Hawkinge is a bit meh. It's got a few amenities but has a quite dispiriting feel to it. Lots of nice villages around about the same distance from Folkestone.

Ah ok. What makes it disparaging? Is it crime or just not exciting. I've been offered to move there for various reasons from my northern town. So if I took it it would only be hawkinge. But its seems OK to use as a base?

Full disclosure, I've only been there twice as it is where the HV clinic is when that was running. But it just felt a bit sad. One main street with a couple of run down shops. I'm sure it's perfectly safe, just a bit sad.

Depends what you are looking for. But Folkestone itself has plenty of nice bits and there are lots of other villages around.

On the question of easy to get into Folkestone then if you have a car it's less than 10 minutes and not often too busy. If you are reliant on the bus they are not massively frequent bit do exist.

Most of villages have a primary school. For secondary you are looking to Folkestone or further afield anyway. When it comes to it for us we will be considering various school in Folkestone, Ashford and Canterbury I suspect but for now just started our village primary.

I dont know about all the little areas, but folkestone itself is up and coming, so this could be a good time to move there. Nice arty quarter and the beach is lovely. The weather will also be milder than the north with better summers.

Soberfutures · 14/01/2021 09:07

Thank you. That's what I thought. Willing to sacrifice some meh. If its safe.
Local to me now is crap. Some drug use and antisocial behaviour. Nothing too serious but enough that I need a change.

Nothing has to be forever. If you dont settle, you could always move on again in a year or so. I think its really brave

Soberfutures · 14/01/2021 09:45

Brave or foolish I haven't decided yet ha

Not keen on Hawkinge. Folkestone as a town is certainly improving though. Though, like everywhere it has its problems. Hawkinge itself seems a bit overpriced to me when the village itself isn't great. I went to a secondary school near folkestone and all the intimidating scary lads in hoodies came on the bus from Hawkinge. My friend lived there too and I spent a fair bit of time visiting. I mean, it's nice enough, I guess. I think as a base it would be fine. It's only five to ten minutes into Folkestone by car. Rush hour traffic in and out of Hawkinge is pretty dreadful though, lots of queues. It can get really chaotic. Especially when the main road into Dover is queueing with lorries. Makes it a bit of a nightmare getting up to Hawkinge. They seem to have built loads of houses in Hawkinge but not provided enough facilities to cater for the growing number of people. It's also on top of a large hill so on the rare occasion it snows no one gets to leave Hawkinge! My Uncle lives just outside of Hawkinge in Densole which is much nicer area I think but arriving there from Folkestone way can still be a nightmare during rush hour as you have to drive through Hawkinge.

Thank you. That is helpful information. I don't want to get stuck in traffic if I can help it lol.

Think I may have to go back to the drawing board with this one. 🤔
