Tell me about Melton Mowbray

Just looking on rightmove and seen some lovely houses in our price range. Can anyone tell me what it's like to live there? Not worried about schools as will soon be retired. Any info on nice areas or where to avoid would appreciated. Thanks

I live a few miles away and have only driven through Melton on my way to other places, so I can’t comment on living there. But it does look like a town dominated by the usual chain shops, although there seems to be a pretty park near the middle. I’d spend a weekend there to have a look. (When permitted)
If you want to live in Leicestershire I’d have a look at Market Harborough, a pretty little market town with a direct rail link to London, individual shops, theatre, leisure centre.
Or have a look at some of the attractive villages, nearby.

My best friend lives in Melton. You’re right, the park is really nice. There’s nothing particularly bad or good about the town itself that I’ve noticed. Like most places some attractive parts, some not so good. I agree with Bumblebee, Market Harborough is nicer (my Melton-dwelling friend would rather live there!). I think it’s quite a bit more expensive than Melton. Oakham is also very pretty with lovely independent shops but the traffic is pretty awful.

There’s some lovely countryside all around that area and some very nice villages not far from Melton.

As ever it really depends what you’re looking for in an area.

There's a very popular farmers market.
Like with most moves if access to certain things is a priority then work out if they are available. My hubby has health issues so we need access to a decent a and e.
