Which Bifold ?? Schuco or Express bifold Vision

Hi, I'm shopping for a slimline thin sightline bifold for 4m x 2.1m opening. I got competitive quotes for Schuco ASS70D and Express bifold Vision. Diff is Schuco is german brand and Express is British.
Schuco seems have many suppliers and they have similar quotes. 5EC-ALU & onlinedoorsdirect have provided the cheapest quote with/ without installation.

Dear MNers, any experiences with either brands? I'm not finding much reviews about Express bifolds.

Can’t comment specifically on big olds but I have EB sliding doors and am very impressed with them.

We have Schuco bifolds (5 years old) and have been happy with them

Thank you @thatonehasalittlecar @SheWouldNever

@SheWouldNever I got quote of £4200 for a 4m x 2.1m 4 panel Schuco bifold ASS70D includes installation, 2 x tricklevents. Not sure if this is triple glazed option. I have to check that.

Does this sound right ?? Pls let me know.

Did you need any after sales service in 5 years of usage.

Interested in the feedback on the Schuco Bi-Folds as we’re about to order some too. We had Sunflex doors in our old house - they are also German. They were still great after 10 years.
They are more expensive unfortunately so having looked at alternatives in a window shop we chose Schuco.

@vivimimi I don't have all the quotes to hand, think they are on my husband's emails. As far as I remember I think at the time we were quoted roughly £1k per metre plus VAT. Ours was a 3m opening. Haven't used any after sales services, doors still in good working order, no problems.

hi, we finally settled for Origin OB49 slim profile doors. These looked more modern and slimline than Schucho. We ordered from HBD systems. I had to negotiate a bit, finally got all inclusive price of 5k for a 3.6m 4 panel doors.

4.5 m alloy sliders with 3 panels. £3.5 k. Express were a lot more expensive. Mine are I believe ALU sourced and come from Northern Building Plastics who many builders used around here

Delighted with the quality. Had a minor issue and they came straight out and fixed. 10 year warranty
@Qc16 can I ask who you are looking to order from and if you had any quotes.

Our prices for bifold have come in way above original estimates:

 • Two bifold doors (one 2100mm x 3500mm, plus one 2100mm by 5000mm) plus one aluminium window and door (for utility room) for is coming in at £20,392 + VAT for schuco.
£21,317 for Solarlux
Lucky you to have so much glass!

Yes we have had a quote for the Schuco doors from the Bifolddoorfactory.co.U.K. - we have only one set a 4 panel set 4500 x 2100. The quote for supply and fit are £4500 + VAT for the FSS70 and £6500 + VAT for the FSS80.

So your quote does sound too high.

I haven’t seen Solurux - how do they compare to Shuco? Have you seen them in person? We managed to go to a window showroom just before lockdown as I wanted to compare Origin and Schuco. Schuco just seemed so much better for not much more money.

If you want high end then I think Sunflex are one of the best for bi-folds - we had them in our last house and they were fantastic. They are German but I believe some are being manufactured here now.

Yes - looks like we’re on the same path but yours may be bigger than ours - our new kitchen extension is just under 40 square metres. When do you think yours will be finished - ours will not be finished until at least end of April because of delivery of our kitchen units 😞!

@LittleOverwhelmed - did you decide on which doors you’re going to have and did you get further quotes.
As you mentioned Solurux I’m going to get a quote for them too.
The next decision will be the colour of the bifold! I’m thinking of black - all the rest of the house has white painted sash windows.

@LittleOverwhelmed - I’m really surprised at the price difference 😳! It does show that you need to shop around. I am assuming that is with the window company fitting the windows as that gives a longer guarantee.

@LittleOverwhelmed - I hope your builder is supplying you with solid Platinum door handles then😉

Out of interest - what is the lead time on the supply of your doors? Is it a company local to you that you’re getting them from or is it a national company?
