Tradesmen not asked to use toilet?

Hey,

We currently have builders in doing a small extension. The project is only due to last a week. At the start of the project, I never thought to tell them where the toilet is as in the past, tradesmen have always asked and there was just a lot going on when they arrived! But they’ve been here 4 days now and never asked to use the loo but it also feels odd to tell them they’re welcome to use the loo 4 days in 🙈 Although to be fair, there’s only 1 guy has been here everyday - the rest have been different each day.

They may not have asked because they’re not allowed to - Covid n’all - but I feel bad for them!

Do you normally tell them where everything is when they first arrive or just let them crack on and ask for what they need?

I was just going to say ' how nice to be able to pee in a bottle'!

Bringonspring · 07/01/2021 14:47

Oh my goodness. So you can him to fix a TV for you but not the dignity to let that ‘trans person’ use the toilet

We had a conservatory put on, and they specially called to check if their guys could use the toilet, otherwise they'd provide a port-a-loo!

We are now renovating a derelict home and living on site in a van. The main house has no running water, so I make sure to tell contractors that the toilets dont flush, but they can use a bucket of water if needed. None of them have used it, so I too assume they arae pissing in the bushes, or using a bottle in their vans?

Chumleymouse · 07/01/2021 14:55

When I used to work on site in the 90’s loads of blokes used to pee in the corner of rooms in new builds ( usually before plaster but some after ) 😲

newyearisnewtome · 07/01/2021 14:55

i said yes to one of the men who delivered my DFS sofas. He pissed on my bathroom floor and left footprints in the wee. Didn't wash his hands either because my sink was dry and towel looked untouched. I'll never say yes again to another handyman.

confusedbeyond · 07/01/2021 14:58

The workmen I had at my house were peeing in a bucket in the back of their van. I only found out after I asked them didn't they need to use the toilet after the copious amounts of tea and coffee they were consuming. I said I was happy for them to use the toilet but they didn't want to!

SendHelp30 · 07/01/2021 16:16

@Chumleymouse my DH said this happens all the time on sites. If the portaloos are busy some use the wall cavities. Another reason id never buy a new build 💩🤢

I had repair guy here from ha not sure if he is allowed to ask to use but he did and I said yes, just went in after and sprayed a bit of dettol around.
No big deal

YouBoughtMeAWall · 07/01/2021 16:30

@Maisieme

We had a tv repair guy here for about half an hour. He asked to use our loo. In the current circumstances I said I would rather he didn’t and directed him to the supermarket loo just around the corner.
So instead of your clean toilet you sent him to use a supermarket toilet that hundreds of other people use, potentially covid+ people, and asked him to bring that back to your house? Yes?

Where did that come from?
user1471538283 · 07/01/2021 17:32

No one would refuse surely? I would ask them if they have everything they need/know where stuff is?

I always offer drinks, tell them where the loo is and if it's a big job offered bacon sandwiches or something. Its treating people with respect

Jetatyeovilaerodrome · 07/01/2021 17:34

And I say that as someone who once had a BT man absolutely destroy my toilet... years ago, to be fair. He suddenly felt very unwell, was in the bathroom for nearly an hour, and then asked for things to clean it... He was too unwell to do it in the end, and BT sent me £50 and some biscuits as an apology, but horrible as it was for me - it must have been bloody awful for him, poor man.

Oh god! Shock

Is this a joke?!

Err where does Maisie say that the tv repair man was trans?

Or is it “current situation” you thought it meant the situation with self Id?

No current situation meaning Covid!

RizzleDrizzle · 07/01/2021 19:00

Ooops now I look stupid I quoted the wrong post

Sorry @ohsuzannah I know you haven’t said anything about trans

My post was obviously a reference to @Bringonspring’s post

tofuschnitzel · 08/01/2021 10:20

I think they meant trades man, not trans. It's a typo.
