Cost to Tile Kitchen?

Hi all,

Getting kitchen re-done this year amd wondering if anyone knows cost of getting the floor and splashbacks tiled?

Our floor is about 13 sqm; type of tiles are a light natural limestone or travertine (not made up my mind), and i've been quoted a figure which is more than i expected.

Bit of splashback is about 4/ 5 sqm and fit with little 10x10 tiles. Also do you get the floor tiled entirely before kitchen install, or after and they only tile up to new cabinets?

Our tiler charged £50/sqm for small/medium tiles both floor and walls - London. Did a brilliant job. We had quotes right up to £150/sqm though, from tradesmen who didn’t appear to have any trouble getting work at that price.

DP insisted we have the whole kitchen floor tiled before installing the kitchen on top, because apparently it’s the way they do it in the USA. I can see the value in doing that if you have freestanding mid-unit appliances as it makes moving and cleaning under them easier, but if you have kickboards and all integrated appliances as we do it seems a bit of a waste. It also meant we had to wait for the tiles to settle before they could walk over them to begin installing everything else. Personal preference I guess.

@ComtesseDeSpair

Thanks for the info.

Mine works out about £127 per sqm for just the floor and thats tiling over existing tiles rather than ripping them up.

We will have a non-intergrated under counter fridge and dishwasher, so i can see perhaps the point of tiling under the section seen with fridge but not dishwasher as you arent likely to pull that out unless there is a fault with it.

Guess i will get some more quotes, i'm only jist on very edge of south-east/ new forest, so though i wouldn't expect London prices i kind of expect not the cheapest.
