Porch door question

Hi, We’re going to finally be getting a new porch built within the next few weeks and I’m unsure what door we should get. The porch will be brick (bottom half) and windows but should the front door match the porch door? I’m not keen on plain white porch doors, any suggestions? Also any tips or things to be wary of if you have any regrets?

For context, we live in a mid-terraced.

Thank you!

What kind of front door do you have?
Is porch for extra security, a period design / modern statement, need to be on a budget?

Shape of porch - flat/apex roof?

If the existing front door (that would end up being the door between the porch and house) is replaced with an internal type/quality door, the porch will require Building Regulations approval. This may therefore help you decide.

Thanks for the reply @jackstini. Excuse the balloons, was for the VE celebrations. The porch roof will be flat.

Ours are half glazed to let light in to hall but hide any gubbins on the floor. They suit the age of the house. A front porch door that meets all security standards is surprisingly expensive.

Also to add, porch isn’t for extra security I’ve just think it will be aesthetically pleasing and add value. The house was built in 1930 I think and I prefer tradition over modern.

@DevilDamo thanks. But if we keep that door as the front door and not change to an internal type door do we still require building regulations?

Correct.

DevilDamo · 07/01/2021 08:51

Sorry, should have been a little more specific. If the original (external) door is retained, it’d be exempt from BR’s.

That’s great, thanks for confirming @DevilDamo

I would maybe match up to the front one as that will let in enough light and is a lovely colour!

awwkkwwaard · 07/01/2021 10:46

I would have a half glazed on so the continuity of the glass is continued with the door. Not really explaining myself very well, but hopefully you get what I mean!

Thanks @jackstini @awwkkwwaard I was originally thinking of just getting the same door that we have now but wondered if the was too matchy but I do love our front door so I think I’ll stick with that. I don’t really take much notice if other peoples porch doors and front doors match so hopefully no one will take any notice of mine Grin thank you!
