lockdown from tonight?

possible lockdown looks likely from midnight tonight.

What are people's thoughts - do you think they will halt the property market like last march, or keep transactions going?

We were hoping for exchange/completion towards the end of january!

The good news is the market remains open in Scotland - www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/

So I doubt it will be closed in England.

I bloody hope not. I'm the same position as you - looking to complete by end of January. I'm moving from England to Scotland and hoping it can go ahead...

oh brilliant, thanks for this, makes me feel a bit better.

Not heard from our solicitors yet today, i'm sure they're getting bombarded with enquiries today though. just hoping we stay on track!

I hope not! we are hoping to complete then as well.

During the last lockdown even though the estate agents were shut they worked round people who were due to complete. The solicitors worked from home and the estate agents were bringing the keys to people. So fingers crossed!

I hope not we are hoping to exchange this week

SushiGo · 04/01/2021 15:30

I think it will keep going, they've seemed quite clear that property purchase related activities could continue. Also hoping to exchange in the next month (still a bit of leg work to go)

So glad I found this thread. I'm in a panic as our moving day is this Friday and we are in a chain of 3.

I could really do with the kids being at nursery on Friday but thats obviously not our main concern.

Really hoping we can move Friday as we have so much going on in the coming weeks and could do with being a little settled.

mountains76 · 04/01/2021 15:35

It's unlikely they will shut the housing market given they didn't last time.

mountains76 · 04/01/2021 15:36

Although this will likely slow the process down for those waiting on searches/conveyancing/mortgages, although hopefully not as bad as first time around now that people are equipped to WFH.

CarolinaWeeper · 04/01/2021 15:55

@Thatsmycupoftea are you me? Our completion date is Friday too, after exchanging just before Christmas. I'm holding on to the fact that house moves still happened last March and April but if nurseries close and we have both DC with us it's going to be a total nightmare as packers are coming on Thursday and we have to be out of the house when they're here. I REALLY don't want to be sat in the car for the best part of two days with two preschoolers.

tinselvestsparklepants · 04/01/2021 16:02

Our moving day is Friday, completion Monday. We move into temporary, cramped accommodation. Woman we are buying from still hasn't found anywhere. I would really appreciate them not closing the market....!

Thatsmycupoftea · 04/01/2021 16:32

@carolinaweeper fingers crossed they allow nurseries to stay open. There is no where to go is there, other than sit in the car or at the park and its freezing. Wonder if the packers will let you sit in another room and switch if needed?
