Exchange query

We are in chain of 4, my solicitor has said we are ready to exchange, does that mean everyone in that chain would be ready or would it be just us and our vendor?

Usually that would just mean that you are.

But ask him/her? They may mean that everyone is ready.

You don't all have to exchange at the same time, just complete on same day.

Technically you don't all have to exchange at the same time, but in practice it's far better if the entire chain exchanges together.

It avoids the possibility of something unexpected occurring, and leaving someone in the unfortunate position of having exchanged on their sale but not their purchase.

We are in bottom of chain, I’ll just wait with everyone else then.
