Has anyone painted a composite door?

We've just moved into our first home and I really dislike the door. It's what you typically find on a 60's/70's home, the white uvpc ones with big handle etc.

Ideally we would change it completely but it's really expensive. I've heard about painting them but not sure how effective it would be/how it would look. Has anyone done this?

I have painted a UPVC conservatory with Zinsser Allcoat. It went on really well I think it was 3 coats. It was from golden oak to pale green so big colour change.

Make sure surface is clean NO priming needed and I have used it on guttering and downpipes too.

Is it upvc or composite? Theyre different.

We did it in our last house and would do again, used zinsser 123 primer and then farrow and ball eggshell, it looked so much nicer than the white plastic. You do need really good brushes because the brush strokes show.

I was going to ask this. I have painted a upvc door. Got Siri list paint from B&Q. Worked well.

“Siri list” = “specialist”.

@HasaDigaEebowai - I think it's UVPC? All white, with the white handle, like heavy duty plastic door. I'm clueless!

@wejammin - thanks for this, so I can still use F&B as long as I've primed it first?

You can paint upvc using frenchchic paint (without primer) or all sorts of other exterior paint (but many require using a proper primer and some then also need a top coat)

Chutneymaura · 04/01/2021 11:57

Yes did it with Frenchic paint last summer- still looking lovely!

Broadbeanssleeping · 04/01/2021 11:59

Look at frenchic on facebook

wejammin · 04/01/2021 22:37

@iloveyoubutilovememore yes can still use F&B over primer. If you can find frenchic in the colour you want this might be easier than primer and f&b though.
