Are prices in good areas of Sheffield softening a bit (lower end)?

Last summer there was a big spike in prices there for modest terraces in good locations (2-3beds) - I was outbid several times evn though offered asking price.

The more recently in autumn I've noticed some reductions but not on done-up houses. I'm not keen on ex-rentals but equally can live without a new glossy interior - last one I offered only had one other comparable bidder BUT I need to move quickly, and the vendors haven't found anything yet and can't break the chain.

If you / people you know are selling there, did you actually end up with the price offered or had to lower after valuations etc? and do mortgages take ages now? I'm just hoping I may have an advanathgge now as don't need a mortgage, but only would work if there is no over-asking price bidding going on.
Just hoping vendors will be more realistic if they wanted to get there before March? I don't even mean big reductions, just no bidding wars.

We moved in November and did complete at the very high price agreed in the middle of the crazy period in July last year. Not sure what prices are like now in comparison.

that was good going, Beautiful - was it a very short chain? it's taking ages now, just 5wks for searches from what I've heard and weeks for mortgages. It's still pretty crazy - higher than last year's prices but you probably paid the very top price - whichis probabl worth it if it was the right house.

We were extremely lucky and agreed the purchase of our new house before the stamp duty holiday was announced, at a discount, then the sale of our old house three weeks later after the announcement at considerably over asking. Hopefully this will give us some wiggle room against potential drops in the market to come.

great to hear that things went smoothly for someone - a lot of tales of woe regarding property on here (and in RL)!
NOt much coming on now, I just think some ongoing autumn sales are bound to fall through so I'll be ready to jump in (but probably so would other desperate buyers - still, you've got to hope).
