Mansfield, Nottingham

Looking to move within about a 15 mile radius of Rainworth but don't know the area at all. Any places to avoid? Don't want city centre and don't need schools. Is the surrounding countryside nice or is it mostly urban sprawl?

The surrounding countryside is very nice and there are some really good villages and small towns, I wouldn’t go in the Mansfield direction I would go more east/south east of Rainworth.

Avoid all of Mansfield

Avoid anything West or North of Rainworth. Mansfield, Worksop areas are grim. Go East or South of Rainworth and you'll find either nice villages out Southwell way or small towns like Arnold or Calverton.

Ravenshead, Linby, Papplewick, Woodborough, Lowdham, Oxton, Southwell, Lambley, Epperstone are all nice. The roads A614 and A6097 are quite fast. Lovely countryside, lots of woods to walk in and Sherwood Forest. Also Sherwood Pines, Rufford Abbey, Clumber Park NT property, Newstead Abbey. None of these villages/towns could be classed as urban sprawl. Arnold is on the edge of Nottingham so could be classed a bit as urban sprawl.

Thank you for those suggestions, I will look at the areas suggested. MIL lives south of Bristol so I was thinking that south west of Nottingham would make visiting easier. Are there places anyone would recommend looking at/avoiding in that direction too?

Although I appreciate that would be further from the Rainworth area so I will have to work out travel times as ideally wanted to be about half an hour away by car but could probably stretch up to an hour.

It depends whether you want to avoid Nottingham itself, Chilwell, Beeston and Bramcote are nice areas. If you want further out then Long Eaton has nice areas, Breaston and Draycott are nice too and close to the M1 which might make the commute to Rainworth reasonably bearable.
