I've painted cabinets. I found removing the doors, painting them when laying horizontal and using a roller brings good results. Can you post a picture of yours?

Like PP I have painted mine too , take them down , remove handles. Clean really really thoughly.

I used Wilkos cupboard paint ( don't use normal gloss it scratches too easily ) .
All cupboard paint has a very high VOC so keep windows and doors open

I was thinking of getting them painted professionally. Concerned about scratching/chipping etc?

I have painted cupboards in my kitchen. Not scratched or chipped but the paint does rub and discolour around the handles. Where you grab them. My kitchen was painted from scratch and not retro painted. I am though considering getting my kitchen painted in my holiday home. I’m undecided. The pictures on the web site or the company show very dated kitchens that should have been ripped out! Horrible kitchens where painting didn’t help! So I’m undecided.

I've had mine painted professionally. They were handmade MDF, sprayed and lacquered. This meant I could choose any colour (hubbie wanted something different as he makes and fits kitchens for a job). Due to messy dogs, I went with a gloss finish as easy to keep clean with a quick wipe over. Not finished yet, the bottom unit done, the tops ones will be done in the new year.
Very durable - but it wasn't cheap.

We painted ours and it looked great. Take off the doors and use a roller as per previous posters. You are better doing thin coats a few times.
