Trying to work out the rough cost of fitted wardrobes. We aren’t in a financial position to get them quite yet but I need to know roughly how much we need to save.

We have a traditional 1930’s semi with alcoves either side of the chimney breast.

Can anyone who has had similar give me an idea of how much they costed.

Another question, which company did you use?

We’ve just got Ikea Pax. They are fab! Mid decorating at the mo & covered in sheets but they are identical to the photo attach except black handles & we don’t have quite so many. Full of shelves & drawers & trays & baskets .. all for around. £700 👏🏼👏🏼

Def worth considering if on a bit of a budget!

I'm having cupboards and shelves in the alcoves of my 1930s house and they're charging £640 plus VAT for each set of cupboard and shelves. See attachment. It's expensive but I think it'll be worth it! HTH

We had a quote for £9k from Sharps and just under from another high street brand (can't remember who) and we also ended up with IKEA with PAX. They look fab - we designed them with the IKEA team, had professionals put them up and bought some lovely doorknobs from Zara home.

Unless you have really bespoke needs or an oddly shaped space, I'd go with IKEA.

Should have said IKEA came in at £2,200 all in including fitting and fancy knobs

We have a whole wall full - IKEA PAX here too but got a local joiner to "hack" them so they fit perfectly in space & then we got custom made doors to fit.

Also in a 30’s semi and we had ours made a little while ago by a fabulous local furniture maker- came in around the £2k mark. Much cheaper than the quotes we had from likes of Sharps et al.

We’ve got an IKEA Pax and some John Lewis Home Mixit; the latter are much better quality and when I priced them up, there was less than £100 difference. If we wanted to, it would cost a few hundred £ to get them fully integrated by a local chippy (London) - whereas I was quoted £5k (!!) to build from scratch two chimney alcove wardrobes.

We just got a bespoke wardrobe done for £3000 by an independent company in Scotland. It was an awkward space that incorporated an old press and an alcove in our room. It seemed like a lot of money but it is so nice to have everything as we want it and a proper space for all our stuff.

We avoided sharps and other big companies as we felt that our money was going to there slick advertising campaigns rather than the craftspeople.
