Soundproofing on party wall

I’m planning quite a bit of redecorating/DIY and I’m thinking about trying to soundproof a bit in between me and next door whilst I’m doing it. We get along well enough, but they’re just naturally loud (teenager who sings badly for hours on end. Dogs barking in play for hours. Dogs running up and down the fucking stairs), and I’d like to try and minimise what I can hear. In their defence, the walls are stupidly thin and I’m sure we irritate them too sometimes, so would benefit us both!

Looking at fitted wardrobes in the bedrooms on the adjoining wall so is it just a case of creating a space at the back of them, or using insulating plaster board?

The living room has a chimney breast with an open fire, so I’m presuming it’s just the alcoves either side I’ll need to do something with? Again, looking at built in cupboards in here.

Kitchen is being refitted, so can do the whole wall on that side before the new kitchen is fitted.

Anyone got any advice or done this before? Thanks!

You might also want to look at adding insulation between floor joists, depending on your house. That made such a big difference when we did it (just one room so far, we are slowly working on it).

Hadn’t thought about floors! I’ll look into that.
