Hi All,
Currently looking to have a new kithen installed in 2021 so im starting to look around. However, most of the kitchen fitters near me all use either Howdens or Benchworx etc. I would like to see how much the units would cost from DIY kitchens but how do you go about knowing which units you require to compare like for like?

I used ikea kitchen planner, just put in the measurements of the kitchen and it will tell you if something won't fit. Cost us 2500 euros for abou 18 cupboards, a dishwasher, counter top, end panels, everything we needed. Dh put I in, he said the rail system they use was a lot easier and the B&Q one we put in before. I also priced B&Q for similar cupboards and they worked our 3000 euro dearer.

Go to Howdens and get them to design the kitchen for you and give you a full quote with all the items listed.

You can then work out what you need from DIY kitchens.

Then go back to Howdens, tell them how much it costs with DIY, and the Howdens quote will magically halve.

The quality of DIY is superior though. You can ask DIY to quote based on a plan from elsewhere for the closest of their kitchen designs. Or just pick the one you like best. Be aware that some of the pricier options from DIY do not have all the various cabinet sizes available in them. Some of the corner pantry units, for example, are only available in a small number of the kitchen designs.

what we did was pick which type of kitchen we wanted first matt or gloss or shaker, then we got wickes in to do a measure and design, went down to their showroom and got a qoute, which gave us the measurements of individual units, their qoute was £4800, we then went on DIY kitchens online planner and put the same kitchen into that and the basic qoute came out at £3000, we then went down to the showroom, fell in love with a different kitchen same price though, went through it all with the lady in the shop. went home put it all into the basket they checked it all tweeked it paid for it and four weeks later my lovely kitchen arrived

Howdens are matching our quote from DIY, and we are going to go with them because if bits are wrong, it will be for our kitchen fitter to sort out with Howdens.. whereas if we order from DIY, we’ll have to sort out any fiddly bits.

Just make sure you check the Howden’s quote thoroughly.. they are a bit sneaky. They changed the handles from the ones we wanted to one costing 5x the price... luckily I noticed.

Or just use the online DIY Kitchens planner which is a million times more user friendly than the Ikea one.

I wouldn't go to Howdens and ask them to draw up a kitchen because they simply draw up a design to sell rather than a practical design which takes health and safety into account (at least that was my experience with them).
