Selling house with Hive Heating

We will be moving soon, and currently have a hive heating system installed in the house we are selling. I use the app to control heating and it is registered in my name with my details. How will it work with the new owners? Obviously don't just want to leave them in the lurch with it. Read on hive website that new owners would have to purchase a new hub, but feel this is unnecessary and just a way for hive to cash in on people moving house....

The new owners of our old house purchased a new hub straight away. It was a huge selling point for them because they had seen loads of houses where the Hive installation required a complete boiler refit. As long as you are upfront that they’ll need to buy a new hub it’s fine.

As above. Just bought a new hub and set up an account. There’s no way round it unless you were to hand over your account details to them I guess.

Which doesn’t seem smart.

We bought a house with hive. Didn't realize till moving in day that we'd need to buy a new hub. Slightly annoying, luckily we had the money to buy a hub straight away. If you're upfront with buyers there's an extra cost for hive hub, I think it's ok.

How much is a hub?

BellaNutella88 · 10/12/2020 07:59

Moving on Monday to a house with a Hive and had no idea ! Will we still be able to use the heating while we order a hub. Probably a silly question but I’ve never used one.

@lollypop345 thank you ! And for the link, will buy one :-)

Wow! I hadn't even thought about this.
Is Nest the same? I think the house we are buying has this (it it might be Hive... will have to check).

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 10/12/2020 16:48

We found this out when we moved... left our buyers a note explaining and took the hub with us

The only way around this is to set it up with a generic free email box you can also handover

Eg [email protected]

And then give them the email account password as well...

But chances are you only find this out when it is too late...

lollypop345 · 10/12/2020 17:34

@putthehamsterbackinitscage I am able to change my account details, so I'm thinking of just setting up a generic email account they can log into like you've said and change my login info to that. You can also add users to the app... will change details and see what happens

We’re selling our Hive house and were just going to follow their guidance on taking the hub.

It’s fine to use the heating just via thermostat if they don’t ever want to buy a new hub, so no different to not having Hive in the first place (except the thermostat is prettier I guess) if they’re not interested.

I’ll be installing it in my new house because it’s the shiznit.
