Plumber recommendation in South London (Vauxhall)

Hi all, we are desperate. We keep getting ghosted by plumbers. We need our bathroom redone after a poor renovation job. Could someone recommend a good and reliable plumber? It's been almost 2 years without a working ensuite and we are just at our wits end!

Forgive me for stating the obvious here but isn't Pimlico Plumbers based in Vauxhall?

DianaT1969 · 09/12/2020 20:51

Have you asked for recommendations on NextDoor app?

DianaT1969 · 09/12/2020 20:54

What happens when they come to quote? There was a thread on here about insider secrets of tradespeople. Many said that if they get a whiff of the customer being precious or demanding they don't bother quoting. Could you be coming across a little intense? (Not saying you are!) More likely to be due to everyone getting their homes renovated during lockdown.

Charlie the owner of PP was on the news this morning

CatAndHisKit · 09/12/2020 21:59

PP is extortianate! at least it waswhen I lived in London. Once I also had a negative experiennce with them, but generally fine yet overpriced.

I don't think the owner is in the news for very good reasons tho

bicyclesandbeyond · 09/12/2020 22:06

I used polka dot plumbers when I lived in Clapham - they were great.

Thanks everyone. So we've had a lot of trouble due to an inept builder who had no idea what he was doing, leading to multiple leaks, damp from an unknown source because he didn't take the necessary steps to tank the bathroom (basement shower room) to make it waterproof. The ensuite has been out of service for a long time! I don't think we are particularly intense but I think it's a big job and not straightforward!

@bicyclesandbeyond - they look great ! much prefer a company than a name and a mobile number who could be anyone! Thank you so much !

I used Pimlico Plumbers a lot. They aren't cheap but they were really reliable and available.

user1471777414 · 10/12/2020 11:40

@DappledThings thanks! I always just hear that they are overpriced, glad to know they are good

Pimlico are my go to firm when I want to be able to rely on someone to turn up exactly when they say they will and do the sodding job.

That said, getting them to do a whole bathroom, even an en-suite might be extortionate. I used them for a tiny downstairs loo, for anything bigger I’d go to the effort of finding a smaller cheaper firm.

However after 2 years I might be tempted to just shell out.

user1471777414 · 18/12/2020 16:27

@FindHungrySamurai Thanks for adding this. May give pimlico plumbers a call. Our bathroom is about 6m2 . If you are happy to share, how much did it cost you for your loo? Many thanks for all the help.

It was only about 3 or 4 hours work I think: replace loo, replace sink, tiny amount of tiling, so less than 500 quid, but the point is that they’ll probably charge you the full hourly rate for the job.
I’d ring up and get them to quote, then at least you’ve got a worst case scenario price which you can compare with other firms.

StCharlotte · 18/12/2020 16:35

I wouldn't use Pimlico but only because of their recent crimes against Christmas ads.

ramarama · 22/12/2020 22:07

Try H2. They cost me £400 less than the Pimlico quote for a big job

user1471777414 · 04/01/2021 21:28

@findhungrysamurai - got the pimlico guys over, no hassle, quick quote. Pretty expensive but we needed a few quotes anyway. Exactly as you said. Polkadot plumbers quoted 5k less.

@stcharlotte - lol!

@ramarama , thanks!
