Ugly house...

Would you offer on an ‘ugly’ house? It has the space we need and in our ideal location. But it’s very bland outside.

It's not ugly but I'd never buy a house with shiny floors.

QuantamBaby · 06/12/2020 20:56

If it's the space you want, in the right location for the right place then I would say go for it. You can make that outside look an awful look better - it's amazing what new paving, lights, plants can do to an exterior...

Honeyroar · 06/12/2020 20:57

It’s not that bad. You could improve it a lot with plants and a new fence/gutters (even a new drive).

ComtesseDeSpair · 06/12/2020 20:59

I don’t spend all that much time staring at my house from the outside, so if it had all or most of the things I was looking for then it wouldn’t bother me at all. I wouldn’t even call that house ugly really - a bit bland and nondescript but you could easily give it more appeal by making the garden more attractive, adding some planters etc. When it comes to sell there are people who will feel the same way and prioritise what they want inside over the outside.

Philandkirsty · 06/12/2020 21:00

The back garden can definitely be improved and the inside made less bland. It’s a good price too so we would have budget left over.

Watch ugly house to lovely house! If you have the money/can get it passed by the council you can render/clad/re-do brickwork/change windows and do the driveway/garden to increase curb appeal! X

PickAChew · 06/12/2020 21:01

It's no different to most of the 3 or 4 bed semis in my city. Perfectly good house, even if there's the odd thing I don't like inside.

And make it stick out like a sore thumb.
Whatthebloodyell · 06/12/2020 21:06

The worst thing for me
Is the kitchen floors, and the back
Garden. It’s really not that bad from
The front, just a normal house, that with a bit of time
And
Money could look loads better.

TroysMammy · 06/12/2020 21:07

The EAs are really taken by the dining table. Lovely big kitchen but I don't like a paved garden but you could make it attractive with potted shrubs and plants.

Philandkirsty · 06/12/2020 21:08

We would definitely lawn the garden which is bigger than it looks in the photos.

Incrediblytired · 06/12/2020 21:11

It’s not that bad and it’s massive! I’d buy it if the location is good, location is key though.

Awrite · 06/12/2020 21:12

You do not see the ugly outside from inside, do you? Buy it.

Mountygirl · 06/12/2020 21:12

Yes it is bland but also a semi. I always think it's weird when people give semis an external overhaul and there is still an ugly house attached! I'd save my money and make the inside and garden nice.

Daydreamsinglorioustechnicolor · 06/12/2020 21:14

You could make that nicer with some changes to the front garden. Some colour and height. I'm not a gardener but I think it would be worth getting a garden designer if you can afford it. A pretty front garden makes a big difference in my opinion.

WillBillHal · 06/12/2020 21:17

No opinion on the house but it took me by surprise as in the next village to me! The DCs went to school there!

Ohalrightthen · 06/12/2020 21:20

I couldn't do it, it just has zero charm or character. And the inside might be all new and shiny but it's also just completely soulless!

Bluepolkadots42 · 06/12/2020 21:20

@TroysMammy I thought the same! They have really gone all out with the table shots. Grin

OP I honestly don't think the outside of the house is that ugly at all- it may not be my taste, but I have seen a lot, lot uglier than that. Inside there are things not to my taste, but the space is great and stuff inside is cosmetic and can be sorted.

Ukholidaysaregreat · 06/12/2020 21:21

You get a lot of house for your money. The inside is high spec. Use the money you save to improve the garden.

propertyhell · 06/12/2020 21:22

I'v seen a lot worse! It would be hugely improved by pulling up that patio.

Aquamarine1029 · 06/12/2020 21:23

I was expecting a total disaster. That house is not bad at all, and a different spin on decor and some paint would work wonders.

TreaterAnita · 06/12/2020 21:26

I really don’t think it’s that bad OP, I’ve seen much worse, and it would definitely be easy to increase the kerb appeal with planting/new fencing/cleaning up the driveway, etc.

StCharlotte · 06/12/2020 21:26

Is picture 13 from someone else's house? And what's the obsession with the dining table?

Yes it is bland but I'm sure you could improve the front with some nice planting. Maybe paint the window frames?

justabigdisco · 06/12/2020 21:30

It’s not that ugly at all. It’s fine. If you sort the drive and the back garden it will make a massive difference to how it looks from the outside. But once you’re in you might find it bothers you less. If it ticks all your other boxes I’d go for it.

Bowerbird5 · 06/12/2020 21:39

If you’ll have money left over why not get a reasonably priced landscape gardener to do the front. Not my kind of house as I like old properties but great amount of space. Lovely big kitchen and if there are good schools nearby that means a lot.
