Would you offer on an ‘ugly’ house? It has the space we need and in our ideal location. But it’s very bland outside.

I’m in Huddersfield too 👋🏼 It’s not super attractive but it’s not that bad & inside is seems good. Some of it is not to my taste but it looks they’ve put money in, so have probably cared for the house. I think the thing throwing it most on the outside is the grey window frames, they stand out loads against next doors white ones. (& the kitchen door handles are a crime but fixable!)

My house is a townhouse & I’d imagine I’d get lots of comments about ‘soulless’ but not everyone likes old houses Confused I like new build/modern, clean lines, white & light. And a house that doesn’t require much work! Different strokes & all that..

If the sellers are checking their house's ad, this thread must be getting their hopes up! Their house page has had over 3000 views, against an average of about 200!

We live in a very ugly house but the location is amazing, and it ticks all the boxes in terms of room size, size of garden etc.

I would go for it. You can do masses to make it better inside.

Saz12 · 07/12/2020 10:04

The outside is actually OK, but would be way better with a repaint, some power-washing (of the paving), and some good planting.

It’s not a characterful property and never will be, but it could be very practical and very nice.

That’s a lot of house for the money, plenty of room and green space around. Who cares what it looks like? You don’t sound much time looking at it, you’re living in it and I reckon loving every minute

AllBellyandBoobs · 07/12/2020 10:39

We did. We left a beautiful Victorian semi that was over 4 floors and moved into a detached 1950s bleurgh house. We planned to make pretty it up outside but haven't actually bothered yet. We live inside and it is such a nicer house as it works well for us a family, no more shouting up and down to the basement or top floor, the garden is bigger, the kitchen is brighter etc. I don't even notice the outside anymore really

Are you from the are PhilandKirsty? I just wondered if you were aware of the ongoing planning applications? Don't want to put you off!! Message me if you like - I have friend who live just by the house you're looking at so can find out what's happening!

It's lovely inside OP. Outside isn't great but you can render it as suggested

SendHelp30 · 07/12/2020 12:08

You can render it and don’t need planning to render an existing house but might do for the extension. It’s really not that bad.

MacbookHo · 07/12/2020 12:12

The outside of a house is its least important part when it comes to living there. For selling it, it’s important (as you’re seeing!). But once it’s yours, it doesn’t matter anywhere near things like heating, room size, neighbours...

hadtojoin · 07/12/2020 12:56

I love the house, I don't think it's ugly at all. I agree the garden would look much better with a lawn though. We bought a very ugly house with rough rendered grey walls but loved the inside and it had a huge garden. We painted the outside and it still didn't look that good but once you are inside the outside doesn't matter.
