Ugly house...

Would you offer on an ‘ugly’ house? It has the space we need and in our ideal location. But it’s very bland outside.

Not as bad as some. With a jet washed drive, a tidied garden, some pretty tubs/baskets it would be fine (love the kitchen).

NotMeNoNo · 06/12/2020 21:53

That's amazing they have spent so much on the interior and the location is fantastic. It looks far better on Streetview - the estate agent has taken a crappy photo. It could easily be smartened up but it's just a bit plain in style. I'd far rather that than a faux-farmhouse crammed into an estate.

ShopTattsyrup · 06/12/2020 21:54

I wouldn't call that ugly at all, a bit bland but that can be fixed very easily! I was expecting much much worse - or maybe I have very bad standards Grin

DougRossIsTheBoss · 06/12/2020 21:59

It's not inherently ugly. Its just ordinary really. The back garden is horrid and the front could do with a wash and brush up but it's not really offensive. The inside is clean and tidy and doesn't need much work.

Yeh. I'd buy it if it's the right place, price and space. I am no Kevin McCloud. I do not need to live in a characterful Victorian terrace or a post modern architect designed place.

Coffeeandcocopops · 06/12/2020 21:59

Amazing space. House is fine. You can pretty the back garden up but all gardens look dull and miserable in autumn and winter.

CoffeeRunner · 06/12/2020 22:00

I would buy it if it suits your needs otherwise yes.

Philandkirsty · 06/12/2020 22:01

We currently have a characterful period property but it’s freezing, expensive to maintain and no parking!

It could easily be styled inside and out to have a bit more warmth and interest whilst keeping the modern airy feeling. I'd unpave the garden for a start. I think the edge of village location is great, it's worth trading for that.

NotMeNoNo · 06/12/2020 22:18

Cracking view of Emley Moor Tower too.

WhatWouldChristineCagneyDo · 06/12/2020 22:19

It's not a thing of beauty but it's owners have infected it with the grey plague (which appears to have spread to the UPVC window frames)

The only thing there that would give me real cause for concern is the back garden which looks utterly dismal. Making it resemble a garden again rather than a neglected goods yard is going to be either v spendy or v backbreaking.

Missthedog · 06/12/2020 22:38

Is it just me who finds it really rude to post about someone's house like this? I would be fuming if it were mine.

BungleandGeorge · 06/12/2020 22:41

All the ‘also for sale’ houses underneath are 4 bed detached for slightly less, are they in a worse area? Looks wouldn’t bother me that much but I’d far rather a detached. Also, the bedroom with the sloping room looks like you can’t stand up in half of it?

AlwaysLatte · 06/12/2020 22:45

Wow £289 for 4 beds! It's a good price so I'd be tempted except for it being overlooked. But if you don't mind that then definitely go for it.

BungleandGeorge · 06/12/2020 22:50

4 bed detached in the same village for £300k though.

AnnnaBananna · 06/12/2020 22:54

I actually think it would be ok with a few changes. New drive (dark grey). New guttering and downpipes (also dark grey). Some nice flower pots and a bin store to hide the bins. Get rid of the basketball hoop and the hideous mailbox on the front wall. Switch the twee house number for a more contemporary style. Update the front garden. I might even be tempted to clad or render part of the front to make it look more modern.

NotABeliever · 06/12/2020 23:02

Agree with everyone else. The outside is ok, it doesn't stand out as an ugly house but I probably wouldn't buy it because the decor is the opposite of what I like, see shiny kitchen floor, electric fireplace and green shower.

BungleandGeorge · 06/12/2020 23:18

The only access to the back garden looks like it’s through the house. I presume they’re leaving the hot tub!

Putting your house on the market invites conment. Don't do it if you don't like it.
cuppateabiscuits · 07/12/2020 06:33

The outside needs a bit of colour and garden and with a fresh look it would be fine.
Nothing a few ideas would fix including plants

VinylDetective · 07/12/2020 06:36

The view’s gorgeous. I could forgive a lot for that.

Florenzia · 07/12/2020 06:42

Location is no.1 as far as im concerned.

Matilda03 · 07/12/2020 06:49

I wouldn't call it ugly. Bland yes but not ugly. You could make it looks really nice for not that much. The biggest thing for me would be the concreted garden but if you've got the money to put grass down that's not an issue.

Roselilly36 · 07/12/2020 07:00

I wouldn’t say it was ugly either, it does lack kerb appeal. But you can easily add that with a tidy front garden, plants etc. The rear garden is also lacking greenery, but again easy to fix. If the size of the property suits you and you have some money over to spend on, which certain rooms need, and the location works for you, why not?

aeiouaeiouaeiou · 07/12/2020 07:23

I'd say the house is lovely but doesn't get a lot of sun judging from the garden.
