Naming lender on buildings insurance

Hi everyone,

I need to put some home insurance in place ahead of exchange on our new house, and the solicitor has said that the policy MUST name the lender's interest as it is a T&C of the mortgage. I've never heard of this before and our previous mortgage with the same provider didn't specify this condition. I can't see anywhere where an insurance company asks for this info on a policy application.

Has anyone else needed to do this and, if so, how?!

Thanks.

It’s so if the house burns down they know who lent you the money.

It’s added on as a ‘bank interest’

It’s easy to do you just tell them

And free

Weird. I’ve very recently bought home insurance & while it asked if the house was mortgaged, it didn’t ask who with.. there wasn’t an option! I used MoreThan.

I guess you’d need to give the company you want to use a call?!
