Is my new kitchen boring?

After multiple threads and lots of advice/opinions we sent off our final kitchen design a few weeks ago. We ordered the last bits this morning which was just our taps. I'm not sure whether it's just nerves but I'm really doubting myself. I wanted to keep it neutral and warm with the logic we can add colour through plants and accessories, and by painting the walls.

Then I saw a gorgeous picture of a navy kitchen with oak worktops and brassy taps/handles and I loved it. I'm now worried my kitchen is really boring and meh. I really wanted to get it right. Do I phone up and see if it's too late to change and return some things? Or is it just nerves and I should leave it as is?

I'm the most indecisive person in the world, apologies if you've seen my many threads over the past few months and couldn't care less about my kitchen BlushGrin

Navy is in fashion, which means it's wow, until it sos depresssing and boring. Stick with class.

Wildwood6 · 25/11/2020 17:09

If you want the kitchen to feel neutral and warm then I think what you've picked already is perfect Smile

Chewbecca · 25/11/2020 17:11

Navy is going to be really dated, really quickly.

Some greenery, maybe plants, maybe a funky leafy wallpaper will elevate your kitchen to wow, plus you can change if you get bored.

Winecheesesleep · 25/11/2020 17:14

I like it and agree with your logic that you can add colour in lots of different ways. I imagine this would also be easier to sell if moving might be on the horizon.

SnowmanDrinkingSnowballs · 25/11/2020 17:16

I think kitchen s are a bit boring, they need to be practical. If you want to jazz it up pick a bright colour and have lots of accessories in that colour. So for example a big bin, stools, le crueset pans, utensil pots etc.

YellowEllis · 25/11/2020 17:31

Yeah that makes sense about the navy. I'd hate to change and regret it I guess

It’s plain but a black canvas.

I would have had a double sink with two big bowls. If you have a dishwasher, you can drain in the second big sink if need be. Just more versatile than a small second sink. I think metro tiles are a bit dated now. Done to death. We have an upstand and no tiles. Good quality paint above upstand can add colour and a good splash back. Get the metro tiles in a more modern colour.

Veterinari · 25/11/2020 17:43

Navy kitchens have been 'going out of fashion' for about 5 years I think...
Still seem popular though. I think coloured/dark kitchens will be around for the foreseeable...

Having said that ignore fads and trends and choose something you like. If it also happens to be trendy that's fine.

Karcheer · 25/11/2020 17:43

I think it's a blank canvas which means you can add colour with accessories. Navy will look beautiful with you colour scheme, so get a Navy Toaster, Kettle, T-Towels etc... and when fashions change or you get bored of them you can swap for another colour.
I think you've been very sensible and it'll look classy and timeless.

FastFood · 25/11/2020 17:44

I think it's lovely and neutral, love the metro tiles!
I'm not fond of the beige floor tiles though, I would choose something more contrasting or even a light hardwood floor, but it really depends on your kitchen, if it's open plan, big room, small room, bright, shady...

What colour have you picked for your walls?

Anyway, I think your rationale is smart.
Navy cabinets + brass taps are going to be outdated at some point. It's good for instagram and pinterest but I remember that 15 years ago, there was a trend for red gloss kitchens, and now...well it's not the trend anymore. At all.

You can never go wrong with neutral, and you can jazz it up with wall art, lightning, plants and accessories.

GuyFawkesDay · 25/11/2020 17:45

I have almost the exact same kitchen.

I painted the walls stiffkey blue. ....So I have navy in there. But when fashions change I can easily change it.

Neutral and classic is always s good move IMO

YellowEllis · 25/11/2020 17:49

Floor is the one thing we can still easily change as we haven't ordered it yet, everything else in the picture is ordered and would be harder to change. I originally wanted oak floors but we have oak worktop and our internal doors throughout the house are oak so I thought it would be too much so switched to a neutral stone tile.

Our walls will all be white when we move in, I was thinking a statement colour like emerald or navy but dh thinks a warm grey or off-white.

I’m having a new kitchen next year and what you’ve chosen is what I’m going for. I love navy/green etc but I think it will date too quickly for me.
I’m going classic and neutral in the hope I love it for longer.

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 25/11/2020 17:50

I think you have picked a classic looking kitchen, it will look lovely and you can always go for colour on the walls if you want, however if you have always been secretly hankering after a navy kitchen but just aren’t brave enough, you should have a navy kitchen! Your home should bring you joy and I personally don’t think navy will date, it’s too much of a classic colour in general be it in a kitchen or on clothing/furnishings, the Royal Navy seem to have stuck with it!

Needcoffeeimmediatley · 25/11/2020 17:51

We have those kitchen cupboards, I love them.

MsShopper · 25/11/2020 17:51

I love what you have planned - but (as with a PP) the tiles stood out as something you could perhaps make more of a statement with. I helped my sister design her kitchen last year with a very neutral palette, but she had metro tiles in a rich deep red wine colour in the chimney breast above the hob. It really finished it off beautifully.

BigRedBoat · 25/11/2020 17:52

Do you like the kitchen you've ordered OP? If you do then that's all that matters, I wouldn't worry too much about what's trendy.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 25/11/2020 17:59

It’s lovely and classic, it’ll look fabulous for many years. I suspect navy would feel more dated more quickly.

Madonnawiththebigboobies · 25/11/2020 18:07

*@guyFawkesday *I'm torn between stifkey blue and Hague
Do you mind me asking is it very blue as is navy when done ? Or more air force? The hague seems to have a green hue and also which white did you pair it with ( if any) tia

Pepperwand · 25/11/2020 18:16

I really like the kitchen you've chosen, it looks light and classic. Personally I'd go for an oak floor rather than the pale tiles. I don't think it would look too much with the worktop.

Pepperwand · 25/11/2020 18:19

Like this one (but I'm biased as it's what I'm planning for my kitchen renovation....apart from with olive green tiles)

MessAllOver · 25/11/2020 18:35

I would have chosen a patterned tile or wooden floor to jazz it up a bit - grey/blue and white pattern would look nice. But I like what you've chosen and it will be very saleable if you move anytime soon.

Smallgoon · 25/11/2020 18:37

I went for a navy kitchen with dove grey wall units. I love it! Though I think navy with a wooden worktop is quite dated. I prefer quartz worktops.

GameSetMatch · 25/11/2020 18:38

I love it, sound great!

Badoukas · 25/11/2020 18:41

Dark slate type tiles would be good for the floor.
