Is my new kitchen boring?

After multiple threads and lots of advice/opinions we sent off our final kitchen design a few weeks ago. We ordered the last bits this morning which was just our taps. I'm not sure whether it's just nerves but I'm really doubting myself. I wanted to keep it neutral and warm with the logic we can add colour through plants and accessories, and by painting the walls.

Then I saw a gorgeous picture of a navy kitchen with oak worktops and brassy taps/handles and I loved it. I'm now worried my kitchen is really boring and meh. I really wanted to get it right. Do I phone up and see if it's too late to change and return some things? Or is it just nerves and I should leave it as is?

I'm the most indecisive person in the world, apologies if you've seen my many threads over the past few months and couldn't care less about my kitchen BlushGrin

That's very pretty, I love the colours.

CuppaZa · 25/11/2020 18:46

I find it a little boring, although it will help sell the house if you ever want to

missbunnyrabbit · 25/11/2020 18:46

My new kitchen is very very similar, except with cream gloss doors. Same tiles and worktop. I was going to paint the walls sage green until my boyfriend said my paint samples look like snot.

I did the same as you, ordered my kitchen and then looked at lovely navy/light blue/other fashionable coloured kitchens and regretted it... but our kitchens will be a blank canvas and we can change walls and accessories easily!

MrsEricBana · 25/11/2020 18:49

The best kitchens I visit round here are the ones where the actual kitchen is pared back and tasteful, just like the one you've ordered, then the "interest" if you like, comes from their accessories, art etc. I had a neutral kitchen done here a LONG time ago and although it's a little dated it still looks pretty good as I've updated the accessories over time and it's true to the house rather than being on trend as such.
Don't shoot me but only thing I'd say is that metro tiles have been and gone.

I think you are making the right decision, classic for the hard to replace stuff, as trendy as you like with accessories, paint and lighting.

lowlandLucky · 25/11/2020 19:06

Stick with the white, it looks great

Chewbecca · 25/11/2020 19:07

Emerald would be great. Maybe consider a burnt orange too?

petrocellihouse · 25/11/2020 19:11

Neutral colours are much easier to jazz up and don’t date. I still remember my red kitchen from the 80’s. That dated really quickly!

CherryRipe1 · 25/11/2020 19:19

It's tasteful and liveable. I like it. Navy will be so demode soon, so as others have said, go for funky accessories, features etc, things that can be easily changed when unfashionable.

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/11/2020 19:21

I like it.

I love the navy look but it’s going to date really quickly. Which is fine if your loaded and just start again but most of us can’t do that.

Ha ha! Me too!I was obsessed with having one & envious when my neighbour painted her mustard units white & swapped the handles for red ones plus got all the accessories.
cretelover · 25/11/2020 19:25

Is the cupboard colour mussel?

ahhanotheryear · 25/11/2020 19:27

looks really good the kitchen you have chosen. You could paint the walls navy as they are easier to change

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/11/2020 19:31

Oh I remember red kitchens & when they started making appliances British racing green. I thought that was so classy.

TheFutureIs · 25/11/2020 19:33

Looks very similar to our kitchen! We have gone for oak effect floor with oak worktops as the kitchen goes straight into the dining room. To add interest we went with sage green tiles and have a wall painted in Little Greene Ashes of Roses. Rest of the kitchen is a very pale grey. I love my kitchen, as does everyone who has seen it. Our builders were dubious about the colours until they saw it all together

tanstaafl · 25/11/2020 19:54

Almost exactly the same as ours OP.
For the window that catches the sun in the morning we put in an orange roller blind.
Great , warm colour in the morning!

PresentingPercy · 25/11/2020 20:25

The kitchen Pepperwand posted will gather dust and grease above the cupboards. I’m not a fan of the sockets on the tiles either. That’s why we don’t have tiles. In fact many kitchen designers omit tiles now because paint is cleanable and you just paint it another colour when you want a change.

carly2803 · 25/11/2020 20:34

i love your kitchen OP!

honestly if i walked into a house with a navy kitchen, i would think what the actual fuck. not my taste. BUT if you are doing a kitchen in a forever home - go nuts!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 25/11/2020 20:36

I think you are making the right decision. I did the same thing - classic light, neutral colours for the things that can't easily be changed - tiles, flooring, cabinets etc . Bold or dark colours can date - but walls can easily be painted a different colour and accessories changed.

dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 25/11/2020 21:09

Artwork is great for adding colour.

GuyFawkesDay · 25/11/2020 21:20

@Madonnawiththebigboobies stiffkey is very much a dark mussel blue. Hague is darker. Massively outing but here's mine!

Thank you, feeling reassured. I'll stop wobbling now!

@GuyFawkesDay thankyou . I love the stifkey in your kitchen. You have helped me to decide . Thank you xx

Ratatcat · 26/11/2020 07:10

We’ve got a similar style and it is fine but not exciting. Our kitchen is a bit small so it’s never going to be a wow kitchen but I’m hoping to paint the walls blue at some point to give it a lift. The colour is fine really- just a base. However, it’s the fitting and the fact the cupboards are getting tatty that really annoy me. We could do with replacing but I’m not keen to spend money until we can afford to extend. I also hate the fact we have hard wood floors. I wouldn’t do that again as it’s not as practical as tiles.

Moonlightandstardust · 26/11/2020 07:16

It will have longevity and look classic. I wouldn’t doubt yourself!
