What would you do with this kitchen?

We haven’t moved in yet! But want to re-do kitchen at some point. What would you do? Want to see if there’s anything i haven’t considered - so layout and also decor/colour choices. Washing machine would be elsewhere.
I love to bake and cook. Don’t want a breakfast bar. Would like an American fridge freezer.

What's next to the fridge - is that a door to the other side of it? X

BrieAndChilli · 22/11/2020 23:16

Door next to fridge leads into lounge, door on cooker side leads into study and the other door is into the front hall.

Do you need to try to fit in a dining table or is there a dining room or is the lounge a longe/diner?

BrieAndChilli · 22/11/2020 23:26

Lounge is a large lounge/diner, washing machine/tumble drier/cleaning stuff will be going into conservatory.
We currently have a walk-in pantry(although no utility) so panicking about storage!
Though I could put a dresser in dining area for wine glasses/serving dishes/cake stands etc?

And how much of a change are you up for? As you could make a noticeable aesthetic difference with little changes/colour/unit fronts or go for a really big functionality difference with a full redesign/extension/knocking through to another room...?

MarinaMarinara · 22/11/2020 23:28

Great about the lounge/diner - much more flex if you don’t need to factor a table in (and even if you choose to it could just be a little bistro set)

BrieAndChilli · 22/11/2020 23:29

Not extension as house already extended side and front.
Don’t want to knock through rooms as don’t have the budget and prefer to keep rooms seperate rather than open plan.
Thinking redesign and new cupboards etc. For example was making where breakfast bar is into full ceiling to floor storage cupboards.

so with 3 doors, it seems like the kitchen is a hallway that everyone is going to walk through all the time to get to the other rooms? Or is there scope to block off one of the doors? that would give more worksurface and make the space less like a corridor.

if you can't block off the doors, I'd probably keep the 3 major appliances (sink / cooker / fridge) in the same locations. but you could update everything if you want to spend money.

FrustratoPotato · 22/11/2020 23:32

I would move the fridge to the wall under the stairs and fill in the whole space with pantry cupboards. Move the cooker over to where the fridge is with no wall cupboards. Keep the sink run as is.

BrieAndChilli · 22/11/2020 23:40

I had though about swooping fridge and cooler but assume that would mean gas and extractor having to be rerouted which will be a faff?
Door to lounge could be blocked off as door to lounge from front hall also.

I'd block that lounge door off.
Change the white fridge because I don't like white appliances (sorry! Blush)
Change the bar stools.
Paint the kitchen maybe white. Other than that isn't much you can do it's bit of an awkward one.

BrieAndChilli · 22/11/2020 23:50

@SpillingTheTea it’s not my fridge!! We haven’t moved in yet! These are photos from listing. Going round on Thursday to measure up and have a look at some other bits. Hoping to move end of Jan.
bar stools will be going as will breakfast bar. Was thinking cream units with wood/wood effect worktops. Built in dishwasher and possibly fridge/freezer. Totally change the oven as when I opened it during viewing its tiny!

Oops sorry! Assumed it was yours! Grin.
Yes cream would work. I'd prefer white. I'm awkward and don't like the colour cream but they do look nice when I've seen them just wouldn't go for them myself.
Yes the oven does look a bit small!
Your idea of long cupboards Is nice rather than having a breakfast bar.

Lightsontbut · 22/11/2020 23:55

It's a pretty small space so if you can block off the door next to the fridge I'd go for that. I can't see what that end of the room looks like. Can you then put in a corner run along that wall coming down where the fridge is? I'd probably keep the cooker where it is but not have seating in there as it doesn't really look big enough to comfortably eat in. There's no right or wrong with colours and styles - go and have a look in some kitchen showrooms and see what grabs you.

Davros · 23/11/2020 00:22

I would block off one of the doors if possible. Take out the sink and washing machine run, put a table and chairs there by the window, put sink etc where bar stools are.

WhenPushComesToShove · 23/11/2020 00:58

I would block off door to lounge to give more space. I very much like your idea of floor to ceiling storage behind doors on the right as you enter the kitchen from the hall. It looks as though you would have plenty of space for a giant fridge. You might consider moving the sink over so that you have a larger worktop space for food prep. Would love to see photos of the finished article. Happy moving

parietal · 23/11/2020 13:00

if you are eating meals in the lounge, I'd block the door between kitchen & lounge but keep the top half open as a hatch (old fashioned but very useful). Then you can have a big run of worktop around the corner from the sink (in the same location) past the hatch. then swap cooker & fridge, and get an induction hob so that it is all flat with your big worktop.

InTropicalTrumpsLand · 23/11/2020 13:11

I don't suppose you have a floor print? I love looking at them.

What I would do:

-New unit fronts for sure (I don't like wood, but if you do...)
-Block one of the doors and have a floor-to-ceiling pantry where it is.
-I don't like the white tiles, would probably go for metro tiles or even hexagon ones.
-Extra storage where washing machine and tumble drier is.
-Move toaster and smaller appliances to below the stairs, freeing up some useful space to the right of the stove.

BrieAndChilli · 23/11/2020 14:10

this the the floor plan.

I like @parietal idea. keeping a serving hatch would be better for getting food to dining table.
