Belfast sink - laminate worktop?

Hi all. I’m refitting my kitchen early next year and really want a double Belfast sink. All the ones I’ve seen seem to be fitted into solid wood surfaces, but I really don’t want this (had it before and hated it!), and have my heart set on a really nice laminated worktop instead. May be a daft question but I’m presuming this will be ok to fit around a Belfast sink? Just thinking with there being exposed edges on the worktop that’s all.

Have a look at these Havsen sinks from IKEA. They have a lip that overlaps the cut edge of the worktop.

Oh I like the look of those, thanks :) I guess I’d have to modify the units I’m having, as not going with an IKEA kitchen and that sink is 20cm deep as opposed to 22cm which seems average for a Belfast, so it won’t sit quite right, but that’s doable.

Havsan sinks sit on a normal sink unit, not a Belfast sink unit. You need the worktop to run behind the sink, it doesn't go all the way back to the wall.

We have a Havsen with a laminate worktop. I don't love the seal at the sides, I am a bit worried it will blow at some point, but it hasn't in the first couple of years and I do think the sink is an excellent solution. Looks nice, very functional, and an absolute bargain.

PS ours was recommended by our fitter, for our non-ikea kitchen.

You can't have laminate with a Belfast sink because the water will be absorbed by the edges of the laminate and cause it to swell. We had the same issue and ended up with a large double ceramic sink with a laminate worktop instead

@Murmurur how does it fit on a normal unit? Does it have to be cut down in some way? I know IKEA sell specific base units to accommodate the sink.

Ours is fitted on a drawerline sink base unit like this. It has a blanking panel where a drawer would go (the fitter cut this down), and a door under. Our kitchen is nearly 2 years old.

Thanks. I think I’m going for a solid pine kitchen, so should be easy enough to modify for a sink.
