What paint brand to use? (Whole house just replastered)

The whole house, including the ceilings, has been replastered. I'm planning to use Leyland Leytex strainght onto the plaster, but what brand should I use for the top coats?

I'm scared by the valspar reviews I've seen, even though I really love the Caribbean Girl turquoise shade as an idea for the dc bedroom. For the lounge we're going blush pink, and for my room, a light green.

I've heard trade paints are more pigmented, but not sure where a non trade person like me gets a colour mixed version from? Or which brands are better?

The plaster may also need to keep drying out, so I need to keep with paint that will let it breathe too. Any suggestions?

We are personally scarred from our Valspa experience.
We have Dulux Trade diamond in our new loft (so new plaster) and that was recommended by the builders who also picked it up for us. We actually have Dulux soft fauna 6 which is a very calming light green.
We have Johnson’s trade (that I purchased) in a newly plastered bathroom and they colour matched a dulux colour.
Both seem fine.
I’m a bit obsessed with farrow and ball colours but I think that’s because there aren’t too many to choose from. I’m currently thinking about Setting plaster (pink) but am 100% my husband will veto this

What happened with the valspar?

Decorating online is a website I’ve recently used. We’ve colour matched valspar it’s a great match but with Leyland trade paints. Haven’t used it though but lots of recommendations from people I know.

Our valspa started to smell like cats pee and body odour. There are a number of threads about it online. But then there are lots of happy people too so they may well have fixed it. Apparently the problem was that there wasn’t enough preservative to stop bacteria from growing. Husband had to sand it back and apply a shellac primer before painting over. The smell has now gone so certain it was the paint.
We won’t risk it again obvs.

Wait until the plaster is properly dry. We use Dulux Trade in all houses.

Most towns/villages with have an independent decorating shop where you can purchase Trade Paint.
Dulux Decorator Centres are your best shot, failing that you can purchase in Wickes, Eurodec, and many many others!

Our decorator favoured Johnstones, and colour matched Dulux and F&B for us. I quite like Dulux, quite thick, so not as drippy, but I also like the finish from F&B - we've used them all in our house, Dulux, F&B, Johnstone's. Oh and Little Greene in last house. No issues with any of them.

Avoid valspar. I’ve heard lots of bad stories and had the misfortune of trying some of their undercoat. Top end price but an absolutely awful product.

Johnston’s trade is very good. They colour match to F&B if you want, using the proper ral codes for the match.

So it's sounding like Johnstones is the way to go?

I've bought some Leyland Leytex for the undercoat and ceiling. Do I need to dilute it for a mist coat first?

I stuck with F&B. Prefer water-based paints and I couldn't get on with anything else.

3 parts paint to one part water or thereabouts for a mist coat. I normally just chuck a bit of water in.
