moving house and location of removal company.

We are moving house in December from Hertfordshire to Gloucestershire. Has anyone any experience of using removal companies and if it makes any difference to where they are based? In particular does it make sense to find one in Gloucestershire instead of Herts or does it make no difference?

We’ve just done Somerset to Hampshire.

We used a company in Somerset.

It meant they came and packed and loaded the trucks and then we all drove up to new house the following day. They unloaded really quickly and were able to drive back that same day.

I think it would have been more complicated to use a company from the new location as they might have had to stay over etc.

We are doing a similar move and have booked one in our current location.

That's interesting, so it was a two day job essentially? How did you find someone else doing all the packing? We've talked about it but not landed on a definitive answer yet.

We are going from Herts to the East Midlands. I think our removals company are north London though.

I moved from london to isle of wight and used a london company. I dont think it makes any difference cost wise, but get a couple quotes and find out.
I pack my personal things (clothing, precious items) and let them pack the rest. But they will literally pack everything - rubbish too. Declutter first.

@JoanneDoubleG - we have moved many times including a few international moves so I’m used to the removal company packing.

This time we did as much as we could that was easy and left them to do the rest.

We actually did this move in two stages as had access to new house.

But if you can’t do that I would recommend getting as much as possible packed and planning a night in a hotel or a night just camping out in your house and then on the day of the move you just have last minute stuff to get packed and loaded.

We had planned a night in a hotel but couldn’t due to lockdown.
