Biggleswade to London trains - are they reliable?

We’re considering a move to Biggleswade so trying to get a clear picture of the train journey into London (Peterborough to Kings X line)

The priority would be for daily weekday commuting - and this looks pretty straightforward in Googlemaps (50 mins). But interested in real life experiences!

Is there much disruption at weekends?

I haven't taken that line since lockdown so I'm not sure what the state is now, but by Biggleswade the trains used to be packed at peak time so you might end up standing. Pretty reliable line on the whole though - you might get a few minutes delay sometimes but nothing too bad.

Biggleswade isn't my stop though so I'm afraid I can't give you local tips!

My parents used to commute from further up the line towards Peterborough and had little trouble. It was some years ago now though.

We lived nearby untill July this year. My DH used to get the train from Sandy (next station up the line) to London every day.
Biggleswade has some fast trains to London that only stop at Stevenage then London, as well as the standard trains with more stops.
We moved out of London not intending to commute but things changed and he ended up working back in London, he did that commute for 4 years. He was ok about it, from Sandy he always got a seat and the line is reasonable reliable, the odd cancellation but mostly fine, however when it does go wrong, there's not many options, I had to pick him up about 6 times from random stations back down the line, over 4 years due to line closure.
The trains were less frequently in the evenings so if he worked late he did a lot of hanging around, but that line now goes all the way though London, so sometimes he would go to Blackfriars or Farringdon, much better than when it ended at Kings Cross.
Seldom used the train at weekends, but used to drive into North London quite a lot, you can do it quite quickly out of rush hour.
The A1 does get busy in rush hour, driving to London in the morning is just one long traffic jam, I did a school run past Biggleswade to Letchworth for 4 years and the traffic slowly got worse.
There is so much housebuilding going on in the area (the village we lived in doubled in size in the time I lived there) many village dwellers have 2 cars so that obviously has an effect, when the A1 goes wrong, it's not pretty.

Yes they are reliable. My brother has been commuting for 8 years on that line and rarely a major issue.
