We thought the former may be better as we are used to living alone
but thought the second may be cheaper,
We are moving and relocating

not much info to go on but generally I'd go for a house rather than a flat.

Depends if the two people want to live together. The two aren't really comparable from that stance.

I think OP meant a couple who don't live together, now relocating together but not used to living together.

Only you can decide that, OP - living together is a big step especially if you are older with set habits . AND it would be a small house so not much me-space.

...but yes, cheaper to run a small house than two flats (council tax etc, no sevice charges). if the house is in good condition of course.

If a couple, a house is preferable, but you may have less physical space than if you had two separate flats, but that's obviously independent of separate living, not living as a couple.
