My mum has broken her Honeywell freestanding thermostat

It’s an older dial one. I don’t live nearby at all. Can anyone tell me if she can just buy a new one (upgrade) or would a plumber have to go around and connect it to the boiler?

if it's a dial one, I'd have thought anyone competent could replace it with one from screwfix, or similar.

What do you mean by freestanding?

Do you mean a portable wireless one?

I prefer the wired ones fixed to the wall. They almost never go wrong.
