How do you find the right architect? Looking for one in Berkshire

We are buying a house which needs proper reconfiguring, not just a simple extension, ie loft, new stairs, taking out of chimney and lots of rooms. Also it's quite an unusual house so not just a standard side return of a semi kind of commission. So we need someone who really considers how we would like to live in it, how best to use the space for what we want and dream of. We have used an architect only once before and it went very very wrong with us complaining to RIBA about them in the end, costing us in money and delays. Therefore we are keen this time to have a great one that listens to our needs but is super creative too. I have googled and looked on houzz but it's so hard to know how to find a good one... Any tips? Or has anyone used one in Berkshire or near to berks that you'd recommend?

Personal recommendations, go on planning website and look at plans for houses you've seen being worked on and liked, get the details off the plans.
Do a websearch and call some up - ask loads of questions, be as difficult about things as you like as its a bloody expensive decision!
