Calling the IKEA experts again! How can I bridge the gap between the top of the wardrobe and the sloping ceiling? OH is doing it so can be modified.

The max height wardrobe I can find in PAX is 237. But once in (at 60cm deep) there will be a 50cm shortfall.

So max height at front will be 290cm.

To make it worse, the wardrobe won’t span the entire wall (as wont be able to open the door, and there’s a window the other end) so it will be in the centre of the wall with approx 1m wall gap either side.

We had a joiner make cupboards on top of the frames which were built into the sloping ceiling and then we had custom made doors to fit the front - but ours weren't as tall as that overall. We did that for the side too - cut down the PAX frame to slot into the width of the slot and had doors made to measure.

I think you will struggle to get doors that are 290cm tall - well, you might be able to source them but they may warp due to the weight. You could have the shorter doors and an additional door for the cupboard on top - or the alternative would be to have a false wall built above the standard size doors (so 50cm at the front) to look as though they're built into a recess, but then you lose that additional storage.

I suppose you could have something built below the wardrobe - so drawers that are 50cm high, and then the wardrobes are built on top of those and your H shaves off the sloping bit at the top of the wardrobe as it slopes into the ceiling - if you see what I mean - then you get the additional storage?

May I ask how much the custom doors were?

I can't remember exactly, I want to say about £100 each? More than IKEA obviously but not extortionate.

We had wardrobes custom built into eaves on either side just in mdf so the end ones opened with the hinge not by the wall if that makes sense.

We are doing this - we have the platsa slightly lower wardrobes under a sloping ceiling. Dh has learned to plasterboard. It's not too tricky if you can use a drill. The materials are very cheap.

You get wooden planks and make a frame and then attach the plasterboard. Then use filler to cover any joins or nails and paint. In a sloping ceiling you have to cut the wooden planks at an angle so we used ds'school protractor. It's saved us thousands.
