Is there anything I can do to these tiles?

I've got a tiny (1930s) bathroom, the floor tiles have seen better days - but the rest of the bathroom is ok, but bland.

I was hoping to re-tile the floor at some stage, but I understand I'll have to remove a lot of the bathroom to do this which seems an expensive exercise!

What can I do to the existing yellow/beige plain Matt tiles?
I guess re-grouting will give them a lease of life, but what colour should I go for?
I was thinking dark/black - would that be a mistake?

Can you post a pic @grottytiles my hubby is a tiler so he's encountered just about everything over the years
You can get special tile paint now so could paint them completely if you wanted - dark and then a white or cream grout?

Personally I'd put down vinyl until you are ready to retile it properly (to what you'd like). Cheap/easy/DIY possible.

Those tiles look fine to me. I like them. What’s wrong with them? Are they just not to your taste?

grottytiles · 16/11/2020 09:35

Ship the grout is quite grotty (different colours due to wear) the tiles aren't my taste - they are very bland.
Maybe I just need a funkier bath mat!

Maybe stencil them? I see loads of great after pictures on the Dizzy Duck Designs FB page.

I'd put down vinyl as it's a small space. Cheap solution until you are ready to do more. There are lovely geometric or mosaic vinyls around.

I’d stencil them

You’ve loads of options and as it’s such a small space it hopefully won’t cost much whatever you choose.
As they’re small tiles I probably wouldn’t paint them dark with white grout but you would notice a huge difference if you just re grouted with white or cream etc
Painting tiles is actually a really good finish and done properly can look like they’re brand new tiles and it lasts too - I just think you’ve got the wrong tiles.
Good luck with it and I’d love to see a pic afterwards if you do decide to re grout etc
