Somewhere to hide your keys?
No idea really

Mamette · 10/11/2020 18:54

Holy water holder?

DespairingHomeowner · 10/11/2020 19:01

I agree its most likely to have a religious or superstitious function if its above the front door... do you know what religion/background your vendors were?

MrsTwitcher · 10/11/2020 19:03

Very small plant pot, candle holder or holy water container.

Elieza · 10/11/2020 19:11

Hideous plant holder?

Surely holy water would have to be lower to be accessible?

Having said that, how’d you water the plant if it’s a plant holder.....Hmm

DH says (with surprising confidence) that if it's empty it's a thing you burn stuff in to keep flies away...

Are there 5 of them?

If so, are they filled with a thick green flammable paste?

If those are yes, then when you pull the carpet up you will probably find a brown pentagram with each of the points directed towards one of those hanging braziers.

Whatever you do, DO NOT LIGHT THE BRAZIERS.

Try to avoid speaking Latin or Aramaic around the house. If the pentagram turns into a red liquid and you smell sulphur, leave the house asap.

MrsTwitcher · 10/11/2020 19:35

Is it an incense burner

Skittlebug · 11/11/2020 07:55

Cackling at these replies... I'm assuming Christian but can't be 100%... my first thought was keyholder but it's so high not sure who would be able to reach it in a hurry without a ladder

In the same thread can what era is this glass door...

What is this?

SabrinaThwaite · 11/11/2020 07:59

I’d guess 50s or 60s for that glass door - bet it isn’t safety glass either.

likethatbutcat · 11/11/2020 09:39

We had a door like that in our house in the 60s.

Except the "glass" was a plastic which made a sound like a wobble board every time you opened/closed it (no sneaking home late without making a sound!).

Oh, and it was orange.

Bluesheep8 · 11/11/2020 10:47

It's an incense burner. Was it a priest's house?

dudsville · 11/11/2020 10:52

Nah, Warlock or Evocationist.
