Anyone have a 5.5m x 4m sunroom/extension? What fits in it?!

I have had plans agreed for a 5.5 length by 4m width extension to my kitchen. I realise actual internal space will be about 4.9 by 3.7 when external wall width taken into account. Work won't start for a few weeks but im finding it hard to visualise fitting in what i want - a dining table, sofa and tv on thewall. I am feeling that i can't have all this.... anyone have a similar size?? I dont have the sofa or the dining table yet if that helps. I don't want a tv overpowering the room. I have option to extend length to maybe 7m but of course that will add cost. Any comments or advice welcome. Thanks.

I’d have the kitchen in it! You can easily get dining in there and a settee. I prefer to have the best view of the garden from my kitchen. I don’t sit at a dining table much. We use our informal circular breakfast bar in the kitchen mostly. A settee and coffee table are nice to have looking out. How will this extension work with the kitchen?

We do have a tv but it’s on a low tv unit. It’s not big and doesn’t dominate. I refuse to have giant TVs.

Ours in 4x3m and fits a 6 seater dining table and a sofa so you'll be fine - loads of space!

Have a 4x5m (ish) extension which is more like a granny flat. Downstairs has a gym (can have treadmill, rowing machine and cross trainer out at same time, shower room and storage cupboard under the stairs, book cases and TV. Upstairs has an office with full size curved desk, sofa bed and some clever built in storage.

Upstairs has a

Thanks for all the replies.

Donttouchthatlarry- do you have a wall mounted tv too?

Presenting percy- kitchen has to stay where it is for various reasons, it will open out directly into the sunroom. Its hard when i dont actually have the furniture yet. I draw out the plan and it seems tight. Hoping to get a stove or possibly an electric fire under the tv too. Might just have to get it done then find furniture to fit!

If anyone has any pics i would be very grateful.

I have a larger extension. It is 10 x 4m but the living space is 5 x 4. The rest is the kitchen.

In the living space we literally have sofa and 2 chairs with TV (very large) in the corner. I can't imagine fitting a table in as well as the spaciousness is what makes it so nice with large doors looking out in the garden (doors are 3.5m)

It could be done but we would need a much smaller sofa but the layout wouldn't work for me

Have you tried downloading a floor plan app? I've got one as we are considering an extension and you can add furniture to get a feel of how the space works.

I'm using Floor Plan Creator. Took a bit of time to work out how to use it, but so pleased I persevered. You can change the size of the furniture too, so if you have some furniture in mind you can enter its exact dimensions.

Nacho
I dont have a working ipad at rhe mimute so can only use that app on phone but will give it a try thanks.

Sunflower girl- hmm that's what i think too. It's not going to look spacious which is my worry. I might need to go back to look at my finances again!

@Thierryhenryneedisaymore Go as large as you can...there is a lot of standing cost in building an extension...so increasing the size by 50% won't increase the cost by the same proportion.

Avoid ramming things in...my extension was as discussed 10x 4 but the actual space is larger due to the original house...the living space is as mentioned being 5x 4.

The problem is many people design extensions using design or spacing from new houses they have visited or looked at on line. Many have reduced size tables and sofas/chairs etc. I visited one with a bedroom that could fit a bed in and a bedside table that could just take 2 drinks...no wardrobe...ridiculous.

I understand the difficulty working out what will fit..we had to lay down paper k prints on the floor of our shell to work it out a d then wasn't easy

Thanks sunflower. I want to go to 7m x 4m now. Only adding 1.5m length but will make a big difference i feel. I could go to 8m but that would potentially cause other issues and i think i would be content witn 7m. My actual kitchen will be a good size and spacious so this area is only for a table, chairs and a sofa and tv/ fire. Im going to lay out on the floor to see what itd be like.
What did you use to measure out?

We used long pieces of thin rope and laid out on the floor of the outside land before we finalised plans. So had a line where the kitchen would end (which was easy) and then laid out the out,one of chairs etc.

When we had the shell built we redid the exercise and reduced the size of the sofa we would order as I was determined it would look and feel spacious which was the right decision despite having loads of space left

There are probably more sophisticated planning tools on line but it doesn't replicate laying out against the house and garden and getting an idea as to how it would look.

I was delighted with mine....sat looking through the large sliders into the garden with a drink now!

Thank you so much. I have asked the architect to redraw plans to extend a bit, so waiting for a price!
