Which bedroom for DC?

DH & I can’t agree! It sounds super petty, but I really don’t know what is better as never had more than 1 spare bedroom before! DC is 4.

Bed 1: Double, nice square shape, chimney breast with alcoves either side (for wardrobes) But on front of house (on a main road) & further away from bathroom. Looks out on to drive.

Bed 2: On back of house (quiet), top of the stairs. No views out window due to roof pitch below. Next to main bathroom (we will have an ensuite). More awkward shape room, but still space for wardrobes.

Guests don’t stay often but wanted to have a nice guest bedroom.

Put your DC in the quieter room.

If your son is anything like my nephew he'll be onto that pitched roof at some point! Put him in the other room, if it's bigger he'll like that as he grows anyway. You get used to road noise after a while.

Generally we have a policy of giving our kids the biggest rooms we can - they are always more important than occasional guests. But if bed2 is a decent size and has plenty of space to play in, it does seem the more logical choice. Kids don't need "squareness" but they do benefit from a clear space to play.

@Herbiegerbie haha he would be able to get out due to the design thank God!

OH is saying scrap the guest room & do something else? We don’t need an office though, don’t have hobbies & wouldn’t put the gym stuff in there

We've just been in the same situation and decided the bigger room for DC.
More space for him to play and store any toys, and clothes and a room he can grow into.

It also made sense to have the bigger room for someone who would use it daily, instead of guest room/office that would only be used for set times/days.

@december2020 good point!

Bed1. Permanent occupiers should get the nicer room.

Do you think it’s better for kids to be next to the bathroom? We have an en-suite so wouldn’t use it

The quiet one.

And then use the spare for when you and your DH disagree on matters like this!

How far from the bathroom are we talking?!

Is he prone to peeing himself?

Jroseforever · 09/11/2020 15:04

Couldn’t you have desk in spare room for doing admin / work to make it more useable?

Sunisshining12 · 09/11/2020 15:34

Hahahaha!!!

If you really don't have a use for for your 3rd room, then one as a bedroom for DC and the other as an amazing, palatial den/fort/train track/scalextric room/dance studio/martial arts practice room/whatever he is into! Grin I bet you'll find a use for it as he gets bigger.
