Advice regarding fixing internal stair handrail onto party wall.

Looking for advice/suggestions from people who know about these things.

Our house is Victorian terrace with the party wall in question, "one single brick thickness", according to neighbour on other side of the brick.

Our current stair handrail, only stretches just over half way up stairs, as right side wall not tall enough to have handrail full length.

DH getting on a bit now and struggles with stairs soI want to replace existing rail for a full length one, but this will need to be put onto party wall in order to achieve desired full staircase length.

Will "single brick thickness" be robust enough to hold this?

Would we be advised to fit a wooden batten first, then screw handrail fixings into this?

Would something that is stair mounted (wooden stairs) be a better/worse/non-existent option?

Any other thoughts?

TIA.

If I were you I would do the wood batten. Although into brick would probably e fine. The fact your DH is getting older and will put his weight on it and the last thing you want is it giving way.

Screws at spacings different from the ones for the bannister. (plus 'nomorenails' or similar for the full length. Possibly more bannister fixings too. It is important that it is safe.
