Painting UPVC front door

I would love to paint my currently faded red front door a sunny yellow. I would love to get some Zinsser paint but nowhere near me stocks the colour I think I am after (Zinc yellow). I am now thinking of painting the door with a UPVC primer and then getting a yellow gloss to paint over. Would this work?
Has anyone painted their UPVC front door and what did you use? Any hints and tips are gratefully appreciated.

If you're on Faceboik join the Frenchic group. Lots of painted front doors!

Take a look at Frenchic on Trustpilot and then draw your conclusions. Sadly the facebook group is run by a load of weirdos who delete any negative posts!

Thank you @Anon99925th just looked. I don't think I'll go down that route. I thought Frenchic were a chalky paint, and I am after a gloss anyway.

I first used Crown Trade Grip Extreme primer. Then applied a normal Dulux (I think) exterior paint.

I shall look that primer up.

I have seen this though which I need to have a look at in person as I'm not sure which shade is what I'm after www.diy.com/departments/painting-and-decorating/paint-and-wood-treatments/multi-surface-paint/yellow/_/N-nyrZ1z1402n

I think by applying a suitable primer first you can use any exterior colour you wish.

But if it all goes horribly wrong I will, of course, name change promptly.

You can get zinsser paint mixed I think... I got a in to do my door and surround a sort of teal blue. Mind you the tin is barely started, 1litre was loads, it was 20 quid though so good value.

longtompot · 07/11/2020 20:07

@Stegasaurusmum I know, it was the paint I originally wanted but the delivery charge on top of the price of the paint is just too much. Or I can get 5l of it off eBay for £36! I've checked the paint places here, we have a Brewers, but they don't do the tint I want.

have you looked on you tube someone suggested farrow & ball paint another 2 suggested spray paint
(disclaimer never done this but I always look on there on pinterest for advice ideas)

Oh that's rubbish.. Yeah I got one colour for inside and one for out, so it wasn't too bad, 45 for everything..
I think a primer and satin or gloss would work though.

My friend has painted her front door with a f&b paint which I have asked her about what she used. Not that I can stretch to f& b prices, but I think a few tester pots should be ok.

I think you will find that F&B tester pots are only Emulsion paint and would be no good for outside, or any door.

Ask a local body shop who supplies car paint locally, they will mix up a paint that can go on UPVC, not expensive and you can have any colour
