How long to wait until mortgage approved?

We have our appt next week for mortgage application following DIP.

How long after that should we expect to wait for a decision and what are the steps after that?

It’s with nationwide if that makes any difference.

organisedmother I have an 80% deposit from equity. Also with Nationwide - your 9 weeks worried me. Was it a few months ago right after lockdown? Also why do you say it was a mistake that they were your current mortgage lender? Same here so you've got me wondering.

Person we are selling to, it was at offer stage in a week and a half, think they will have high deposit. Amazed it was that quick.

@Bouledeneige I applied 1 August and received my offer end of October, I thought as they were my current provider it would b quick and I wasn’t borrowing much can easily afford it but basically you are in a cue and there is nothing you can do to speed up the process, just wish I went with someone else with better customer service....a lot of people will have their mortgages now to complete for Stamp duty so might be quicker for you.

Barclays 60% deposit. Offer received within 7 days

The main banks are currently swamped right now, I would say its about 1 month for a case to reach an underwriter, it can be quicker for

So hit post too soon it can be quicker for some lower 'risk' cases a week or so

I got my offer straight away with Nationwide at the beginning of September and they sent a surveyor within 3 days to value etc. His recommendation was £10k lower than we had valued but I was expecting this. However solicitors are being beyond slow and we are still going through the motions with that, i think it could be months + until that is sorted! Very frustrating!

We recently remortgaged with Natwest and it took 11 weeks. It was a pretty straightforward application (both full time, corporate employers, 40% LTV) but we were borrowing a lot and adding money for an extension
