remedial works

We are currently in the process of selling our flat(completion due 11/12/20) which is in a leasehold building with a management company. The building is set as a limited company with some owners as directors.
We have received a letter today from the management company that they plan to carry out remedial works and want 10k from each owner by March 2021. This information has gone to our buyer before we knew anything about it. I think this is going to either mean we lose 10k on our sale price or we lose our buyer. This is from a company who have done no remedial work in the 5 years we have lived here.
Legal minds, is there any recourse we can take such as demanding they do the work in stages rather than in one big go or anything at all we can do? We've started bloody packing!

Have you exchanged contracts OP? I am not sure if anything can be altered pricewise once you have exchanged but hopefully someone with legal experience will jump on your thread.
What has your solicitor said?
