I imagine this will vary widely by location but just wondering, how much did it cost and whereabouts in the country were you?

£20, South Wales. I just shouted up to a roofer I saw on the next street over to come over to mine when he had 5 minutes, he climbed up, swapped a tile and stuck some silicone in a hole he could see.
I imagine it's a lot more if you're actually phoning someone to come out and do a job just for you.

I had a roofer do a small job equivalent for me recently in London, for £40 1st time, £20 second time (literally 5 minutes work)

Where in the country are you based?

We had two tiles replaced about a couple of years ago. Cost £100, we are in the West Midlands.

I've just had my whole pantiled roof replaced.
My next door neighbour asked for a price for the roofers to replace two of his pantiles.
He asked them again a week later, because they hadn't come back to him with a price.
It turned out they had just done the job for him for free and forgotten to mention it to him!

Ah, less than I expected! We got quoted £90 for what I thought was two tiles but is apparently only one huge one. But it urgently needs doing and this company was the only one recommended to us so even though it looks like we are overpaying we are just going to have to suck it up I guess. We are NW. I googled it yesterday and online it looked like £70-100 was the norm so thought £90 seemed fair.

You're calling them out to do a job for you, so they have to charge £80+ really.

I'm not sure you need an expert to replace one tile, therefor needing someone recommended. If you're not happy with the price just shout up to a roofer next time you see one, and get it done for a drink.

Yes, that's what my reasoning was don't get me wrong, I thought that £90 sounded fair given the travel etc. Yes that's true sorry, I guess I didn't think that some of the cheaper ones upthread the people were around already so didn't need to come out, that's true.

It urgently needed replacing as it was half hanging off our roof and a hazard if it fell off, and we've been getting bad damp in our bedroom for ages it just took us ages to figure out where it was coming from. Our street has 5 houses on it, the odds of someone else also having a roofer out within the immediate future is very low Grin.

Anyway glad to report they came promptly this morning and sorted it super quick so I can sleep at night now when it rains not worrying about a leak starting Smile thanks all
