Moving and changing energy supplier

I am unsure of the process as this is my first UK move. I want to cancel my current supplier, and indeed have already emailed to notify them of move date and account closure. I want a new supplier in my new home, not the one used by current owner. Can I set that up before, or do I need to wait until I have moved in to switch from the current supplier? I would really appreciate some help as this is confusing me. The new supplier I want does not seem to offer the option to set up a new account for a future home. Thanks!

There will be a current supplier at the new house. When you move in you initiate a swap to the supplier you prefer.
On the day you leave your old place take pictures of the meters with their final reading and give the readings to you current supplier
On the day you move into your new place take pictures of the meters there too so you can prove the start reading.
Start the move to the supplier you want
