IKEA Alex drawers dimensions?

I'm eyeing up these under-desk drawers and will have to order online rather than go and see them first.

So annoying that IKEA doesn't give the drawer dimensions. Anyone have one and know if they take A4 paper, or A4 document wallets/ring files (which are a bit bigger than A4?).

Also it looks like the three bottom drawers are the same size, so wondering what the usable height inside is for these. There is an old thread with the same question, but I don't know if the product has changed since then.

Thanks in anticipation.

They take A4 length ways but not width ways...

292mm x 521mm

130mm high
89mm high

That is clearance height, drawer sides are lower than fronts

Those are internal measurements.

I have A4 width ways like this but it is slightly too big.

The drawers are very deep and you lose stuff at the back of them.

Brilliant - thanks for that info RandomMess, and the photos, which makes it clear. I don't mind the A4 lengthways.

When you say you lose stuff at the back, do you mean stuff escapes out of the drawer into the back of the piece of furniture, or just that stuff is pushed to the back where you cant see it?

The latter!

You could do with inserts (if they fitted A4 copy paper box lids would be perfect) that you can pull forward as only the first half of the drawer is easily accessible because of how far they pull out.

The backs are as short as the sides so I guess you may have to be careful that stuff doesn't fall down the back 😱 my drawers are still pretty empty....

I may put some cardboard up at the back so nothing goes over the edge...

Thanks for the clarification. They sound like they'll do the job - pity the designers didn't look at how people might use the drawers. Just a smidge wider for A4 to fit across.

Good idea about putting a barrier at the back as I'll probably put software CDs and cables etc in one drawer, and they're bound to escape.

Unfortunately I have a lot of stuff, although trying hard to get rid of the dross. A lockdown sortout is imminent, I think.

I found a useful page on the Ikea hack website for extending the drawers. I guess you'd risk the drawers pulling the whole unit over if they had heavy items in though, unless the unit is fixed to a wall.

Also this idea for organising:
